So what was your first band like? I was in my first band when I was 13. We were called Black Light and we played prog rock. It was part of a rock music camp were you got to play in a band with other kids for a week and learn about being in a band and playing your instrument. I was totally self taught at that time and so I was really scared and I thought all the other kids would be better than me because they had lessons. I was kind of surprised when I realized that we were all about on the same level. We wrote an original song, were on TV as part of a local news story, and played at the concert on the last day for about 300 people. That my first time playing live. I had such a blast that I decided then and there that playing guitar was something I was going to stick with. The band only lasted that week, but it was really what got me hooked. :D

My first band was in high school. We called ourselves Psychotropic Dream. We did covers of Ugly Kid Joe and Blind Melon. We eventually changed our name to Eclectic Groove and played a few open stages once we became legal age (19 here in Saskatchewan, Canada). We played some CCR and Tom Petty and such. It was fun but it didn't go very far.

Hello All, I know I'm showing my age but here goes! 1969, I was 13, had just got my first git and amp for Christmas, an Asian guitar with no-name, and a tiny Sekova amp with only a volume knob, and I think a 6 inch speaker. My buddy had a Heathkit amp, the kind you built yourself. His younger brother had a snare and 1 cymbal! I played rhythm, he played the bass lines on his 6-string. The only songs I remember we played were "Gloria"[Shadows of Knight] Mr. Tambourine Man [Byrds] My Girl [Temps] Secret Agent Man [Johnny Rivers] Dirty Water [Standells] The first time we practiced at my house on a Friday nite, about 4 or 5 neighbor girls stood outside the window and screamed like we were the Beatles! We had no name, however, later on when I was 15, I was in a band called "Dreams of Cherry Love"! Aaaah, if I could only go back! Regards, G.G.

The Electric Packrats. The name was given to us by a neighbor boy about 7 years older than we were. We were all around the 10 to 12 age bracket and we played the Monkeys and such. Badly, I might add. We had very little or no gear of our own and would "aquire" anything we could get away with from the band up the street with the guys who named us for pinching their stuff out of their garage. What can I say? We were cute.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Hey fhopkins, Sorry about That! Later on I remember doing "Blowin' in the Wind" [Peter,Paul and Mary] Sittin on the dock of the Bay [Otis Redding] Also had a band named " Gyro-Physical Duck" Does that stink of the 60's or what! I painted it on the bass drum on our drummer's kit with day-glo paint! G.G.

It was 1976 I was 13, the band was called "Shattered Visions" sort of a 70's prog rock kind of thing. At the time I was the keyboard player.

The Chalons.

The guy in the band who could actually play guitar did lots of Ventures tunes.

I brought the British invasion stuff. The Who, Kinks, Stones, Yardbirds. I sang a lot of lead and played rythum.

My first band, like Texasguitarslinger, was in one of those rock camp things; although mine wasn't an actual program, just a studio that held those camps in the summer.

Anyway, the band I joined was called "Last Ride"(They're still playing gigs, if I'm not mistaken....), and I was the bassist, when I was 13 (I'm 14 now). I had had no previous experience on the bass, except for the five minutes I got to try out one at the Guitar Center in The Village.
We left that music studio after a few band practices due to money issues and just the general matching of the personalities. The drummer and I didn't get along well, and I just really didn't "click" with anyone there. I had really wanted to join or make a band where I could play guitar, but I took the gig as that band's bassist because I had always wanted to try out the bass.

I love trying to play the bass, and hopefully, sometime in the near future, I can actually own one and get some lessons.

Funny story mine.....

Believe it or not, my first band was about 3 months ago. Our music teacher said that we had to form a band, and play any song in front of a large croud and we got assesed. I was guitarist, my mate was drummer, and my other mate was bassist. We played nirvana's rape me, we got recorded, we went alright. Til about a month ago, on the last week there was a "year 7 battle of the bands" contest held at lunchtime. There were 4 year 7 clases; 7mo, 7pr, 7kb(us) and 7ah. All of the other clases had atleast two bands performing. We had none. I got peer presured by my mates to sign up on behalf of 7kb. I did. Then the drummer joined. We where going to play rape me by nirvana again. We could do without a bassist (he was away). But my other mate volunterred for bass, I told him the tab and off we went. We got the highest score, 9.5, 9.5, 10. We were so happy. But, unfortuanatley we didn't win, cause 7mo's score (they had two bands and we only had one) added up 0.5 more than ours. Man were we pissed off!!! But it was fun, very fun.

my first band was "rabensang" and played gothic metal, this was 2002. it was more an project for a small gig at the local rock&pop school festival. during the time some members an i was on this school. they looked for a metal guitarist and so they ask me. but we couldn't find any drummer first. we found good one but 2 days before the gig he had a slipped disc. sh.. happens...so we must canceled our gig.

cheers :D

1977... Jr. high into high school 1981. no name, just a garage band. We played lots of private clubs and parties. We covered the stones, aerosmith, clapton, hendrix, the who, zepplin, j.geils, skynard, outlaws, the animals, yard birds, elvin bishop, the cars, tom petty, bob seager, and boston. 2 sometimes 3 guitarist, drummer, bass player, and lead vocalist who played harp. Basically played for beer. A good time in my life. Stopped playin' after band fadded out, work, kids, etc.,. 25 years later in 2006, I was talked into going up and play at a blues jam. I haven't put the guitar down since, and play as a lead guitarist for a blues band and also a classic hits cover band. Didn't realize how much I missed playin' out.
