i bought this trem block just over a week ago, advertised as a brand new genuine usa fender and fitting current trem arms:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWNX:IT

it arrived today and at first i noticed that the item i recieved was clearly not the item advertised in the photo and infact was not painted on the front and was very dark:

Image

it did not come in a marked fender package simply with a sticker with a barcode saying bridge block 86 strat - again this was not advertised in the auction. my suspicions were further aroused when the new 4.8 mm trem arm i also purchased from a different store did not fit well - it is extremely tight and the shaft projects the bar out at a very severe angle which does not look right to me:

Image

i also noticed that the spring holes at the base lined up diectly with the string holes. on my 07 american strat these holes are more over to the side of the springs and not straight down the middle.

Image

so, have i bought a fake? is this a badly advertised item which is for an older fender that wil not fit as a replacement on my american standard series? have i misunderstood what is meant by american series? Obviously, it clearly is not the item advertised in the auction....

cheers,

A

I am not sure why would you think that your MIM arm would mate up to an MIA block. They were not meant to go together. Are you going to put this block with a MIM bridge?
If so and they fit together with proper hole clearance for the trem, then I'd think you are lucky. Then it sounds like all you need is the new MIA trem arm ...
Overall, this seems to me to be an older (but maybe still in "new" condition) MIA block. Thus it was meant to go with the appropriate MIA bridge and trem arm.

what mim arm? i don't think you've read that right. i haven't mentioned a mexican arm. i'm not stupid! i know a mexi arm wouldn't fit on anything usa, hence buying a 4.8mm usa arm

You are correct. The "mm" in my small font looks alot like "mim" when reading too hastily.

Looks ok to me, like someone has ground the top off the block to get better block to plate contact. Something I do on all my trems. Get the top of the block and the base of the plate perfectly flat.

Will post a pic of mine for comparison later.
