the whole point is i know i can get it on any number of online places. the problem is that i find it odd that you cannot physically go into a guitar shop, view, purchase, and walk out of the door with a pickup...

I live in Tennessee in the USA and it's hard to find a music store here that stocks a variety of pickups. If one does stock some, it's mostly what the owner prefers and not much else. Most only carry things that will sell quickly.

After careful study and research, I have ordered my pickups. Even then, sometimes it doesn't work as expected.

The DiMarzios I have in one strat have been a success though. I bought them several years ago, but for some reason I have forgotten now, put them in my storage bin, and re-found them about a month ago. I put them in an American Strat Plus Deluxe. The strat is a northern ash body (heavy) with a maple neck and fretboard. The Dimarzios I used are a Chopper in the neck position, a Fast Track 1 in the middle and a Fast Track 2 in the bridge position. I think you can still find them on their web site, if you want to check them out. The volume and tone pots I used are 1 meg ohm value and the tone cap is .022 . The wiring is standard - with the short jumper wire that allows the bottom tone control to be used with the bridge pickup as well as the middle pickup.

How does it sound now? Well, IMHO the descriptions they give on the web site are pretty accurate. There is still the sound of a Strat there with the middle pickup, but much more powerful - and a bit different at the same time. It sustains more. The neck and bridge sound like the humbuckers that they are. You would really need to hear it - but I haven't recorded anything with that guitar since changing the pickups out.

I don't know if the above will help you, or not. I hope it is of some use to you.

I would encourage you to search for sound samples of what ever pickup you are interested in. Also, don't forget that the amp used plays a very important part in the final sound too.

Good Luck ! I hope you find what you are looking for.

If it's DiMarzios you want - there has to be some store that will sell them to you. My guess is it's probably just the Dimarzio factory that will not ship overseas, for some odd reason.
