Personally I think the idea of the koil cable is pretty awesome. I hear it's not that great but I think either way i'd still buy one for like practicing or something. The guy at the music store was really discouraging me from buying one so I gave up. Should I still buy one any way? are they really bad? and how are they for basses (all the photos of basses on this site are using one of these cables.)

I like 'em, my practice area is pretty small and is in a traffic way. Ive had mine for about a year with no troubles, but then Im not moving around, or stretching them to the max.

When you have a cable over 12 Ft then it starts acting like a capacitor and can dull the tone. And since a coily cable has a lot more cable then the straight lead it edits your tone.

Some people like it, some dont. Its again, tone subjective. Experiment as you like :)

i have one and alternate back and forth just depending on the day and my mood. I haven't noticed too much difference with the tones but I sit down to play most of the time. They sure do look vintage cool though. 8)

I love 'em. Fender uses switchcraft jacks and shielding to eliminate noise, the older koils use to pick-up. Haven't had any problems with mine. It's a nice vintage look, when I play clean, straight thru my blues jr.

I've always used coil cables, way back when I begun playing it was quite usual. And If I'm remembering right it was all there was...

Unfortunately they where of very poor quality back then, and they started to scratch and break in a matter of weeks if used everyday. In the late '70 I found a Belden coil cable in a music store, it was very expensive but I bought it anyway. It was in use for more than 10 years without breaking. When my children was born in the early '90 all music-stuff was stuffed away because of lack of time.

Moving forward to about year 1999 I picked up my guitar and started to play again. And naturally my Belden coil cable was broke. Got to the music store to buy a coil cable and was nearly made a laughing stock.

Bought some strait cables instead and started to used them. I could not throw avay my Belden coil cable and I found the error a couple of years ago, it was the twist-on connectors that needed to be re-twisted. It was inherited by my oldest son who now plays.

I'm pleased to see that the coil cables is being sold again. I might even consider to go back to the store and laugh at THEM...
