This is not an 'ugly American" movie however.

I respectfully disagree and have also seen the interviews with Cameron where he clearly states that there are liberal undertones and propaganda in this movie. If that's not what you took from the movie and you enjoyed it that is all that matters. I have even had friends of mine who consider themselves to be Liberals who even said that the slant of the movie is noticeable from early one. I am glad you enjoyed it and others have as well, but I won't be spending my money on it only the be lectured on how bad America and the white man are. Take care.

My observations were definitely fixed on the movie making a statement, the precise nature of which depends, I suppose, on whose ox is perceived being gored. If you and your political confreres see an anti-American slant to this you are, of course, entitled to your views. I don't see it as that pointed.

Moreover, how do you view "Alien'' and its not so subtle jab at corporate practice? Wonder if it is by any coincidence that Weaver, a conservationist, is in both films, though different directors.

Y'all need to lighten up, it's only a movie.

Of course it is. But someone apparently doesn't think so.

I recognized the social commentary in the film straightaway, but that certainly didn't prevent me from enjoying it immensely for its intrinsic artistic value.

It's not like I am alone in in my opinion. Either way, i am fine with agreeing to disagree, you liked the movie and that is great, I won't be spending MY money seeing it and that is great too. There is no need to act as if my opinion is wrong because I disagree with you by saying "someone apparently doesn't think so"...plenty of others that I know personally who have seen the movie agreed with my take on it and many sources have commented on this just as I did. Cameron himself made comments to support my opinion. No need to comment further on my opinion about this movie if you don't agree with it. Everyone else can see the movie and formulate their own opinion if they wish to do so.

in your first post you said you saw the movie...but then you said "i wont be spending my money seeing it". so does that mean that someone took you to see the movie? or did you see a free advanced screening? or had someone given you a movie theater gift certificate?

I've just seen it in 3D.

Well, the CGI and the action was great, but the story lucked originality by far.

It was like "Space" Pocahontas mixed with Dances With Wolves. All the stereotypes were there. The love scene just before the big bang (just like Titanic, so Cameron-ish), the "You betrayed your own kind" stuff like Dances With Wolves, and of course "the daughter of the big chief who's destined to marry the brave warrior but the alien stoles her heart and becomes eventually one of them..." Daa aaa... Goodevening John Smith....

The americans still trying to deliver themselves from the blood of thousands of indians and the destruction of the ecosystem. First they gave them the tax-free casinos and now they are making movies, first real, now metaphoric to show to the world the message "Yes we are big and powerful and we don't give a dime about your land, culture or lives but some of us are good...and that saves us all..."

It wouldn't worth a dime more than any other action/adventure film. It just takes +1 point for the 3D.
But in not so many years from now, 3D will be something we'll be experiencing on everyday basis.
It was like "Independence Day". The first global catastrophy blockbuster. Since then, every other attempt just seems the same. Yeah great graphics but a story with as many holes as a swiss cheese.

I saw it the other day and thought that it was visually a beautiful looking movie, but the storyline was thin and it was too long; they could have cut at least 30-45 minutes. Maybe Cameron thought that we should get longer because he spent $300 million to make it (think how many meals that could buy for the hungry families and children in our country).

We saw it over the week-end,my wife pretty much nailed it "It's a 1/2 hour story spread out to three hours with a lot of pretty graphics". I did catch just a hint of the Titanic theme playing under the credits.

Peace,

+1

I liked it. I saw it in 3-D. Much cooler that way. No actors are going to win any Oscars. The Graphic Artists on the other hand....

It was a bit predictable for the most part. To be completely honest, my wife and I had no desire to see it in the first place. Friends and family told us to, so we did. If you haven't seen it and want to, spend the extra to see it in 3-D.

I wonder if it will be available in 3D when it comes out on video?
