I just stumbled on a series on the Sundance channel called Spectacle.
Elvis Costello has a few guests all sitting on stools and holding guitars. Next week (Wed.) his guests are: Levon Helm
Nick Lowe
Richard Thompson
Allen Toussaint

According to the the Sundance website this weeks show will be re-broadcast a few times. Hope this is not old news.

Enjoy,
John.E

John, I hate to see your thread die without a comment. Lemme just say Levon Helm is the man. I listen to The Band a lot. No one's touched 'em.
Even their bad albums are good.
This Costello thing, is it all acoustic? I dont have cable so I cant see it.

Hey Taurus
It's a mixed bag, this past week he had Cheryl Crow, Neko Case,Jesse Winchester and Ron Sexsmith as his guests. Elvis played a big box Gibson and his Jazzmaster, Ms. Crow played a tele and a Guild(I think)bass. Winchester and Sexsmith played acoustic. The show has a coffee house vibe, tell a story, sing a song pass the guitar.
If you know someone who would be willing to record the show for you it's worth the effort.

Cheers,
John.E
ps I bought a new copy of Big Pink before the cds chased the lps out of the stores.

don't get the sundance channel out here. last time i saw elvis on tv was snl... the time they booted him off for playing... detectives was it?... then the time he was invited back. i think i still have the vinyl 45 with murder by numbers.
a real artist. very cool, very different and not afraid to do his own thing.
not that they were anything alike, but he was sort of the david bowie of the '80's. did what he wanted and didn't care what everybody else was doing... just did his own thing.
great musician.

I've seen a number them, on one Elton John took over and interviewed Elvis's wife.

There was a C&W flavoured one, June Cash, Chris Christopherson, John Cougar couple of others. Also Bono / Edge, Lou Reed. Lou Reed's and Elvis's voice didn't exactly work together but I enjoyed it in any case.

Thanks for the tip, John.E. I don't subscribe to the Sundance Channel but doggone if there aren't 3 episodes of Spectacle available on Cox's On Demand service. I'm off to watch the one with Richard Thompson and Levon Helm.

Elton John is one of the show's producers.

Saw the episodes with The Police, Springsteen....might be clips around the web....here we go :

I have been trying to catch it as I am a big fan. I can remember when he broke with the Attractions I was like how can anyone use the name Elvis. I also thought they were a three chord punk band which I also thought The Police were with there bleached blonde look.lol Not Until my brother got the first album did I take notice the guy is a genius. He used to put like 18 songs on an album.lol I thought he showed a lot of class when he went into the R&R Hall of Fame and took the Attractions in with him as he did not play with them in about 15 years. This is one thing that pissed me off with Springsteen for not taking the E Street Band in with him which is a blemish he cant erase and he owes those guys an awful lot.
