It's that time of year again when drunk driving offences reach almost epidemic proportions.Over the years I have had a cousin and a coworker slaughtered by impaired drivers and 3 time offenders in each case.I've seen first hand the huge emotional, physical and financial toll these selfish senseless people cause to families.I worked in a rehab facility for 30+ yrs with victims that were"lucky"enough"to survive such run ins with drunk drivers,a large number of them have been left para and quadraplegics and often with permament brain damage all because someone chose not to spend a few bucks for a cab.I implore everyone don't get behind the wheel of a vehicle if you've been drinking. If you have gigs playing at venues where alcohol is served please tell the patrons not to drive after the festivities,I've even gone so far as to offer a drive to people who've over indulged at such functions. It is everyones responsibility to put an end to drunk driving as just about everyone has been impacted by it.

I drink maybe once a year but I always make it a point to try and DD for my friends whenever possible no matter how late they may call me to come pick them up.

Public transportation in many areas offers free rides during the holidays to people that have had a few to many. It's a good option. Much better than driving.

I do all my drinkin' at home. The way I feel guilty over the smallest things,
if I'd ever hurt someone, back in the day, when I was running the streets...

I knew a hippy named Ron who killed himself 4 years after causing a fatal crash, drinking and driving. It ate at him.

"The Crossing Guard" with Jack Nicholson is a good film, if you need reminding.

Be safe.

You said it,just dont do it! When I drink I stay home. If I go to a party my old lady eather drives or my step daughter will come and get me. It's not so much the charges but lives at stake. Have a plan think before you drink. So everyone stay safe I want you all back next year. :D 8)

Congrats that is great, I only drink once in a blue moon. But maybe I'll give it up for good. Thanks and best wishes. :)

Mike congrats on five years of sobriety that is quite an achievement. Nice words of wisdom by everyone on a very serious topic.

My brother was killed by a drunk driver, so I have no use for anyone like that. All my soldier know that they can call me 24/7 to come get them. They also know if they get a DUI, once I court martial them, then we will be going out behind the barracks and I will give them a good ols Army $@! kicking...just how it is fellas.

I have not had an alcoholic drink in 20 years.

And at this point in my life drinking is not something that I can say I approve of at all. My brother Carl died of liver failure/damage from drinking.

Three years ago, a good friend of mine with his fiancee were bicycling early on Easter morning in Napa, California. They were in a huge 12-foot-wide bike lane. A drunk driver coming home from a night of partying "thought" the bike lane was a regular car lane. Driving in the bike lane, he drove right over them. My friend, Alan, was pronouced dead at the scene, and the fiancee will never walk again ...

I, too, implore you. Please do not do it ...

I hate to mention this... but I drove drunk once  . And that's something I will never do again. I was at a corperate christmas party and had searously miscalculated how much I had to drink, I wasn't blind drunk but as soon as I hit the freeway I felt that I was propably over the limit and instantly felt paranoid and really hoping it would get home in one piece and better yet getting home without hurting someone else. Thanks to pure luck and nothing else I got home without hurting anyone execpt my selfimage.

Thinking back I should have parked the car to the side of the road and called a cab. How easy it is to be smart after the matter.

One thing I learned from this is if I am drinking forget that I brought the car until the day after.

That time I was just lucky and I will never count on luck ever again.

Like they say in Iceland: After one don't drive. (it sounds much better in Icelandic).

Merry christmas everyone and help the economy and take a cab :)

We remember that Troublecall just lost a daughter to such an unfortunate happenstance.
