Marketing your band with tee shirts and the such is part of how bands make money especially in the industry today, But selling out to corporate America like Dr pepper and Wal-Mart is very un Rock n Roll…hey bands making money is part of the music biz right, too dang bad Kiss cant do that making music like every other band…..I find it very tacky …Boooo KISS.. if they would have diverted half the energy they put into chastising Peter and Ace and selling coffins and crap with Genes face on it they would still be a viable force in the music industry.

Well this should not shock anyone as KISS were always at the top in that respect.

Funny though there new album has gotten amazingly good reviews.

Tyical schlock from them, not surprised or that disappointed to see it.

I have a huge collection of KISS stuff including posters, shirts, dvd's, Lp's etc. But crap like condoms and caskets is too much for me.

The new album is very good rock music, and they'll always make some decisions that are silly to many people. Figures they had to do something dumb with something good, keeps the universe in balance.

I agree the new album really rocks……….I have been a huge KISS fan since 1975 and have been fairly die hard up until recently.

I think IMO the revenge album and shortly there after was their best New Kiss stuff…It just had a heavy feel to it.. more modern and up to date.

There was no need for the make up anymore it was cool 30 years ago but these guys are in their 60’s now.. your not gonna’ see me running around in bell bottoms and a mullet (some stuff is just too far gone) let it lay….the reunion tour made sense to me but once they again fired Peter and Ace the makeup should have disappeared. All you now see is a Kiss tribute band and I can go see that anywhere for way less money. The marketing drives me crazy for sure with the abstract art, Simmons snow boards and kiss baby closes, and TV shows (but whatever) If your gonna be a band…be the band you are today not try to be who you were 30 years, heck even 10 years ago. Find a new niche for God sake it’s the 21st century already.

Make the money why not? If I was Gene and Dr.Pepper was going to pay me some nice cash to do a commercial I would say why not show me the green. It's all well and good to be into music for the love of it but it is a business to make a living off of to. 35 years Gene Simmons he must be doing something right.

Okay, fair enough. But you and I don't have Gene's countless millions of dollars. Isn't there some point where being an artist is not for sale? Kiss goes after every last dollar ...

If I remember correctly, Gene learned to play bass and put the band together as a comic book fantasy spinoff and from the start, their aim was to be a money making machine to the furthest extent possible with their visual gimmickry; the endless fans (and babes) were unforeseen and of course, welcome happenstances. In other words, from the beginning it was all about the fun and money and not the music. They made no claims, set no comparative standards for themselves and consequently, how could they ever 'sell out'? Gene is an extremely competent business man who knows exactly what he is doing. I like maybe two KISS tunes at the most yet I profoundly respect and admire Gene's successes and accomplishments in his chosen field as he is surely equal to or possibly even better than Trump in his.

As always, this is IMO, YMMV.

I have to agree with Martian on this. Like him, I do like a few of their tunes, but from the start it was more of an act or show (a good one at that)than a band. Remember when no one could see their faces without their makeup on? Is that marketing or what? Gene IS a brilliant businessman.

Me I would want to make every dollar I could just like Gene. There is never enough because you never know what can happen over time so never leave anything on the table.

At least you guys are on the right track, KISS is a "brand" as much as a "band." Gene/Paul's idea from the beginning was to make their moniker and logo a cash machine.

Their music is self-admittedly average, music about sex and having a good time.

I like most of the music, lost interest alot through the 80's confusing time, but there's a tongue in cheek to all of it. Most people don't get it, and I've heard it all since I've been a fan since '78. There's enough in life to be serious about so just have some fun.

60's or not, the show in November was a hell of a good time, beats the hell out of watching four slobs who need a shave wandering on stage. But like Martian wrote, it's just my opinion.
