Hello guys,

I live in an apartment and I have marshall mg 50 dfx. I know I cant crank it up but I play my guitar at 1 in master volume. And all of my distortion pedals level is set to 12 o clock and I dont use my amp after 10 o clock at the evening. There is a new neighbour just came to my apartment a week ago. They are came to our down floor. I cant play guitar for 3 or 4 days and today I've just played for 20 minutes. And then this crazy guy came to our door and shouted that I will never gonna play a guitar. This guy must be dreamin' . So I'm gonna start to play guitar on a headphones but when I play at headphones the sound is getting lot crappier. So any requests for soundproof or anything that can help me?

Thanks

You could try getting an amp stand so that your amp isnt sitting on the floor, that should stop the vibrations going through the floor and making so much noise in his apartment.

A good set of headphones might be what you need. A pair of Sennheiser HD-280s (95us$) or Sony MDR-V6 (65us$) sound very good to me.

There is only one thing you can do…go get a marshal full stack (tube amp) and dime the thing out for this nice gentleman who apparently loves music and adores your playing but simply has a problem expressing it in a clear and concise way. The fist time he comes to your door and you throw some rifage his way and he gets to ride the Rock and Roll lightening at master of 10 will be his last. You’ll either inspire him, scare the crap out of him, or damage his hearing so bad he wont hear you the next time…

Or……….you could spring for a better set of head phones…..head phones are never really the same though even if you have a Good pair….

I think most of us come to the same path of getting headphones, or murder.

The choice is yours. :]

The first option seems to be the way to go.

I had exactly the same problem with my previous neighbour. I was really quiet, really considerate as to when I played amplified (usually 1 hour saturday afternoon). The guy the other side worked shifts and never had any problem. But this bad neighbour would put rave music on really loud whenever I played and throughout the night also, if I dared to plug in.

How did I win?
I turned 2 jcm800's (100watts each) up full, plugged a guitar in and left it screaming. I went and sat in the car and listened to the radio. When the police came they were asking some questions. I shouted I cant hear you theres some real loud noise drownding you out.

When they let me out the cells I laughed all the way home and in the bad neighbours face when I got home. Theres new neighbours now, I get on with them fine. I told them when they moved in, if it annoys you tell me. I'll turn it off, not down.
They have never complained, neither has the other guy next door on the other side who works shifts.

..or you could devote your time into making him leave.

i had a similar problem around 15 years ago. I lived in a townhouse. 4 units side by side. original neighbors one one side were 2 parents who had remarried and had 2 teens each from prior marriages, so they were noisy too, no problem there. other side of us was a sweet old couple who were both really deaf, so no issue. the old couple eventually moved to an assisted living home, and sold their place to a young couple.

the guy was a real jerk, he would complain if you had friends over talking in the backyard at 2 in the afternoon. Constantly complain about anyone's noise, no matter that no other residents complained. He complained once when I had my radio on during a shower at 1 pm. radio set only to around 4, not a stereo, a little radio.

So anyway the rest of us in the complex started lodging complaints about any transgression of his no matter how small. then to ice the cake, I was dating a girl who worked at a florist at the time. I worked really early, the neighbor would leave for work before his wife. I started leaving a single red rose under her windshield wiper every morning. Well, it didn't take long after that till their unit was back up for sale. problem solved.

Hope you can adapt some of these strategies.

Aside from murder the quality headphones or elevating the amp are good ideas.I'm not sure about the law where you live but here(NL Canada) any threat is considered an assault even if there's no physical contact and the perpetrator can be charged the same as if he hit you.

I would knock on his door and tell him you never had a problem before and that you play and try to schedule something out. If he is a $@!&# then you are just going to have problems so that is why I would try the nice guy role first. Headphones just are not the same, especially if you have to use them all the time.Maybe a smaller amp like a crate GFX15 which might not have the greatest tone but is cool to practice with .And you can get a high gain sound at a very low level.
