I can't say enough about a singer/songwriter I saw earlier this year named Diane Birch. My wife and I saw her perform in Toronto back in October (for a mere $15 a ticket!) any were extremely impressed.

Her music is very much in the vein of Carole King or early Elton John. A beautiful voice (and face), nice piano playing and very well-crafted songs. Not all that guitar-oriented (although she did have a Tele player in her band who I thought was very good!), but first rate nonetheless. I'd strongly recommend her to anyone who thinks there are no decent young artists emerging on the scene these days!

One has to admit that Adam Lambert is a pretty legit vocalist.

Annoying as crap, but legit.

Not my kind of music, but yeah, Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (aka Lady Gaga) at age 23 now, will probably sell millions more of recordings and tix to shows.

At least she writes music and plays piano. She might even be the new "Madonna" by age 25?

I too cannot think of anything this year that hasnt been just more of the same. Bland upon bland out of the radio and the top40.

This whole decade has been a farce musically. I cant think of one outstanding artist from 2000 till now.

I think the Zac Brown Band is a band that will be around for a while. Those guys are really good. I nominate them for best new band of 2009.

I generally never really know who debuted in what year, but the Tele forum introduced me to Joanne Shaw Taylor, whose first album was this year, and I've been extremely impressed with it. I'm hoping for years of good SRV-style blues from her.

I'm surprised at folks who say they haven't found anything worth listening to in the last ten years, honestly. While I certainly haven't come across the next Zeppelin or Floyd, there's definitely been some enjoyable and interesting music.

Wow it has been a sad year and maybe the worst decade in the history of guitar based music. I really hope the new decade brings a change and I really believe it will. And I will give the credit to the most bizarre thing for it-the games Guitar Hero and Rock Band.

Now before you all think I have cracked up until I got GH hero for my 11 yearold he was not into playing. Six months after all I kept hearing blasting out of his room were classic rock songs and then I was shocked how all his friends knew these songs from the game. Now he is on his way with the real thing and listens to all the greats. And I would imagine there are thousands of other young kids doing the same as they sold million of these games. So maybe the future will be brighter in a few years because of it.
