Since the year is almost over, let's hear some nominations for best new artist(s) of 2009 - any genre?

My first thought is the band "Gloriana" with those Teletwistin' pickin' brothers, Tom and Mike Gossin along with Rachel Reinert and Cheyenne Kimball.

Next....?

I honestly can't think of one new band/artist this year that I would consider the best band or artist of 09. There are bands/artists who aren't new but are new to me who I could mention but I haven't kept up with "new" music in so long I wouldn't even know where to begin. I just started playing in March of 09 so I could post the guy who got me inspired to play since he put out his first solo album in 09, but he has been playing in a world popular band for years now.

I think a band called "Boys Like Girls" had a catchy power-pop tune from last summer?

I don't know how long C.W. Stoneking has been around but I discovered him 2009 courtesy of Seasick Steve and I think he's great.

It's kind of hard when most of the new artists are hip hoppers, but if you dig hard enough, there has been some good new acts.

Them Crooked Vultures...I mean how can you go wrong with Josh Homme (from Kyuss, Queens of The Stone Age, Eagles of Death Metal fame) and John Paul Jones, yes, that JPJ from Led Zepplin...and some dude named Dave Grohl???? Just kidding, I know who he is, but I was more impressed that the other 2 were involved too...

Wow Mike, "Boys Like Girls" ? Don't know anything about them, except that my 14 year old grand-daughter recently went to see them with her friends.
I must be gettin' old!  :P Do they even have a guitar player?

Hi Mike,

Best new artist for 2009(for me).

Well that would be Susan Boyle,
The singing Scottish spinster.

Cheers.

She's good but my mate said last night she looked like a haunted tree. I just had to share that cos it cracked me up.

She's done Scotland and the rest of Britain proud proving there is no time limit to fulfilling your dreams and that image truly does not matter (even if you look like a haunted tree) when it comes to something you do with your ears.

Good call.

I think they should cast her in some sort of Julia Child bio-Opera...
