Just bought a CV '60s Squier. I love playing it at gigs.. I know it's gonna happen eventually.. I just freaking know it. I can feel it in my bones. It'll happen within 6-months..

First ding happened when I dropped a screw driver on top of her. The latest ding (or more appropriately, dent) happened when I dropped her on a concrete slab. That one hurt.

The first "ding" on my beloved '71 Mustang was more of a serious dent. I used to play sitting on the corner of my bed. The bed had short, rectangular posts at the foot. One day the guitar slipped out of my hands and the edge of it hit the corner of the post. It created a very distinctive 3-sided dent. I was very upset at the time -- the Mustang being my prized possession -- but if I am fortunate enough to come across that guitar again, I'll know it's really her.

That is a benefit--especially if you can describe them in the police report--before you see it.

on my Epiphone '58 korina reissue explorer, the clear coat has a few cracks on a couple of corners. i need to buckle down with some liquid super glue, 1k-2k grit sand paper and 3m machining compound and fix it. the Prodigy has a chip on the face of the lower horn that is to the wood. that one is very annoying. :P

My first ding came to the top of my Takamine when i slung the cable up to plug it in and it hit the top leaving a little ding in the finish. It doesn't bother me though because dings and scratches add to the personality of an instrument. Then again if it were a more expensive guitar i would have been upset.

Really? Was it reliced before the scratch? Didn't it add more character to the guitar? Just wondering.

Mine went like this, we were playing this Road House and the Drummer was at his best so I turned to give him a nod. Just as I did his high hat fell and it was a direct hit on may Bass. It left a deep mark about an inch or so long. We keept on playing and he was more uoset than I was, I just said It's no big deal you just got her cherry.

I put another minor little scratch on my Hwy 1 today, can't even figure out how I did it, I was in the zone and didn't notice until I was wiping it down after playing. Oh well, one scratch closer to a relic.

I did that on one of my guitars, right on the butt of the lower bout. Left a nice gouge, actually into the wood. The drummer also felt worse than me. I didn't realize how bad it was 'til the next day. he told me he saw a piece of wood fall out.

It was a cheapo guitar I only used for a backup, but he thought it was expensive.

that said, dinging your guitar reminds us that at the end of the day guitars are just tools, not living things. Sometimes i think we tend to personify them, and treat them like some mystic magical thing.

They are a magical thing. They let us create music and bring beauty into the world. Ok no one is buying this sentimental crap.

Ok...They are panty dropping chick magnets (or tighty $@!&#! dropping dude magnets if you go that way). :D :D :D

Oh you can make magic with them, but they are really just good honest tools, I'll take that over hoodoo, mojo, or juju anyday.
