That's a great idea but the real work will involve getting that one, first act to take part. I do believe that once you get that you'd have the credibility to get others to follow.

You may have to start smaller, say regional acts or something, and go from there.

If you do this, I wish you all the luck in the world, pick a worthwhile charity and it may take off on it's own.

That sounds like a (fundamentally) good idea but as you have already stated, how to get it off the ground. It's a real problem if you are a "nobody" or have no contacts in "the industry".

Friday night my brother-in-law and I were actually discussing a similar thing as he said he'd like to do something to raise money for a charity or medical research. (His mother died a couple years back very suddenly from an attack of meningitis. As she LOVED her music we thought something music related would be appropriate.) But as with you, whatever we would choose to do, how would we get it off the ground?

Anyway back to your case, maybe work out which charity you'd like to raise money for and approach them first. Maybe once you have the green light from them, it may be easier to approach others to join in and help. It will look more official and less like you are some scam-artist. Then I would probably try and approach either some of the main venues or the actual Touring companies that promote the artists. Don't know how it works over there, but here in Australia there only seem to be a handful of companies that seem to organise just about every concert tour which comes down here.

Just a couple of thoughts. Be interesting to see how you go. Best of luck!

Cheers.
