Usually there is always something about players who are over rated. I would like to hear some views on players you feel are under rated;

To me Peter Frampton was under rated as a player. From his work with Humble Pie to his early solo super stardom, I really think that his looks at that time and the million chicks screaming there heads off took away from just how good a player the guy is. Frampton Comes Alive was just so well written with great musicianship that everyone owned a copy but there was always the feeling the guy drew so many girls people did not give him his due as a player. He had more respect in Humble Pie.

Now that he is bald with glasses his playing skills are now always at the forefront of any articles or interviews. But I always thought the guy was an amazing player.

John5- the guy is amazing!!!

for his genre of music, he is very flexible in what he plays and who he plays for. :)

Frampton is so very boring to me. Technically a phenom yes, but I just don't feel anything in his music.

+1 on John5 too.

Izzy Stradlin is underrated

+1 Straycat, Framptons Camel showcases the guitar work too.
Henry Vestine - Canned Heat RIP, his loudness and feedback artistry were and still are very unique.

Martin Barre never gets the cred he deserves either or Manny Charlton.

JJ Cale is not exactly unknown. But he should be better known!

One night in Boston MA I strolled over to some club, discovered that tickets were available on the door, found myself standing right in front of the stage and saw Cale play one of the most memorable shows of my life.

Man, I was so glad that happened. But shocked I didn't have to book those tickets about a year in advance...

Cheers - C

I'll add another vote for Martin Barre, his guitar work on Jethro Tull's early album Stand Up was unique and I'm still fascinated listening to it today.
Still trying to figure out what scales he was using. Great stuff.

I always though Springsteen was underrated as a guitarist. A lot of people give him props as a showman and front man, but I think is playing is really good too.

Kim Simmonds of Savoy Brown has never been recognized for his brilliant command of the 335,his playing on Raw Sienna in particular is outstanding.

I've always thought Gary Moore was under rated here in the states. Though I've heard that he's more popular in europe.

I have two submissions:

Steve Winwood - He was a child prodigy and to this day is an incredible guitarist. Even his buddy Eric Clapton sings his praises!

Neil Schon - Another child prodigy that got his start with Carlos Santana!
