I was rejected from the number one college of my choice today. I worked as hard is could and tried my best, but it wasn't good enough, and that really hurts.

So I'm shooting baskets when it is 5 degrees out, when I get this horribly strong desire to be near my Stratocaster. Not necessarily to play it, but just to have it on my lap. Being in a different city (divorce), I could not satisfy my desire, and got even more depressed.

So here I am.

I was looking at the Gibson guitars, when I came across this:

http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electri ... Ultra.aspx

And now I want it more than anything in the world. I've never played one before; all I know is that this is an impulse that I believe I won't regret. As soon as I pull together the dough.

KRAD,

Hey Man, I know there aren't words a person can say to help make the dissapointment lessen over a deal like this, but just know your buds here on the Forum are on your side.

It sucks hard, but life goes on. Be proud of what you did do, and don't ever worry that your best ain't good enough. Sometimes sheist just happens for reasons unknown.

Keep your head up high.

Hello KRAD, express your feelings and don't let them have the best of you. It is OK to be disapointed. Do you know that Albert Einstein was also rejected by his teachers? He started to talk at the age of three. Later in life, before he published anything, he had to move to another town to get a job because at least one of his old teacher didn't want to see him around. Steeve Job was once fired by Apple company and they begged him to come back a few years later.
Don't let them win and victimize you, go on with your life.
They can choose because they were there before you, not because they are better than you. Good luck with your projects. :)
Claude. 8)

Hey Man,

As your finding out, life is full of rejection.

buck it up and move to the next one, everything happens for a reason, and usually for the best. Hell that college needed you, more than you needed them 8) Someday when you achieve greatness, they will know they made a mistake by turning you down. Now get out there and show 'em!

Krad,
Dont let this one setback bring you down. It may have been your 1st choice for a college, but I can tell you for certain there are hundreds of other colleges out there that will accept you and you wll be perfectly happy at one of them. Many people get into their 1st choice and later transfer because its not what they thought it would be. This is only one small disappointment in what will very likly be a lifetime full of great achievements along with the occasional setbacks. A positive attitude can help you to get through almost anything.

I have used this for most of my adult life and it has helped me get through some really tough times.

KRAD,

Sorry to hear that you were not accepted into your #1 college choice. There are other colleges out there, apply to your #2, #3, and #4 choices. End the end all any employer is looking for is a Degree, most do not care what college it is from. Also a new guitar could help with the blues you are feeling about the rejection felt by College #1.

Krad,
My brother, I have been where you are at...and some good news...A few years down the road an even better college accepted me and my life is so much better than it would have been had I gone to my 1st choice. I know it really sucks right now, but soon another door will open my friend. Just keep your chin up and enjoy life.

Tough break Krad but as one door closes another one opens, just keep plugging away and giving your best, some day someone will take notice of your diligence and reward you for it.BTW there is nothing like a new guitar to bring you out of a blue funk, just a couple of days ago I was in my usual guitar store(Reid Music,Mt. Pearl,NL)when I saw the most beautiful Les Paul I've ever laid eyes on and it was an Eppy for just$850 it had the most perfectly bookmatched flame maple top I've seen. The person who did the work on the top must have been their most gifted,I was afraid to pick it up as I knew I would be going home with it which would have triggered a nuclear meltdown in my better half. The salesman did say however that it was the most playable Les Paul he'd ever picked up.I know that a lot of people trash Eppys but I have 5 and they're all exceptional guitars, but I'm still a Fenderphile.

[quote="KRAD"]I was rejected from the number one college of my choice today. I worked as hard is could and tried my best, but it wasn't good enough, and that really hurts.

Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes your the bug.
Sometimes it all comes together baby,
Sometimes you're a fool in love.
(Mark Knopfler)

Take it from a old academician who's done a lot of interviewing of a lot of applicants for some serious professional education. There has to be what's called a "fit'. You wanted to 'fit' and for what ever reasons, it was determined that you didn't. Doesn't mean you didn't have the goods, just means you didn't fit this years mix. Were they right? If you could answer that now, you'd put your money on the Powerball and never have to work again.

Dude, take it from me, there's a guy rolling in his grave right now who, 40 years ago would have bet everything in the bank that I wouldn't be sitting where I am now, and what's more, his daughter bought it as well. She married someone else. Best favor she ever did for me. Screwed up my head for many years but in the end.....I didn't get mad, I got even. Remember the Klingon proverb: "Revenge is a dish best served cold."

Today I hold a Master's degree to his none, the same professional degree as his, did two residencies to his none, several significant administrative and academic appointments to his none, and presently hold the same academic appointment at our mutual professional alma mater has he did, and enjoy a standard of living in the style his daughter felt she was entitled to be accustomed to. But not at my expense fortunately, Someone else had the pleasure of that one.

The day I first entered its hallowed halls, I put on my student's white coat, took the elevator to the floor where I knew I would find him. He had his back turned to me when I entered. He turned around and didn't seem surprised, but he was good at that. I don't know if his laundry man knew either.

Chet Feathers has it dead to rights. Don't sweat the small stuff. You pursue your goal. You make 'em sorry they said "No" and yourself happy that they did.

Now go play guitar and have a great holiday.

Doc
