The singer of my old band keeps dropping hints that they may be after another guitarist. He and I are too much of the same kind. I suspect he wont ask me outright but drop hints.

All I've been listening to lately is old cd's of us lot.

it didnt end well last time round but I am a lot more mature, and a lot of our fallout was on my part.

Whaddya reckon guys, shall I pop the question?

I'd try dropping a few hints to him that you just might be looking for a singer like him.

If he bites, that gives you leverage to say, let's sit down and talk about the possibilities, then you sort out the past, talk about being on the same wavelength, and gettin on with it.

On the other hand, if you "pop the question" he might just be teasin' with ya, and feelings get hurt.

You know the guy, so follow your hunches, if it works, great, if it don't work, ask him if he can recommend someone like him...in other words, try to make it a win-win situation.

Best wishes mate!

I say, dump the band you are in, brutally and unceremoniously, so that there is no way back.

Then go see the other band and tell them you're available and see if they want you.

No, wait. Do I have that a bit wrong?

Still, I'm available if anyone needs relationship counselling, marriage advice or anything...?

Cheers - C

Sounds to me like you have already made up your mind, but are just asking for everyone's opinion. Who are you trying to convince, Us or You?

Follow your heart my friend. No regrets.

Good Luck in what ever direction you decide to go.

Nik I would swear someone was writing under your name as this is out of character for you to do. So I guess you must of really caused some damage last go round. Bottom line you are on talking terms now go out for a drink and just bring up how you feel and say that you really are sorry for f#cking things up last time and that you your head is in a totaly different place these days and we really did some good stuff back then and that you would not mind giving it another go. If you guys want to get together to jam or work out some new stuff to just give you a two week notice and you will be there.

You dont have to be told that many a famous band have interchanged players to only have the original member come back. Or that everyone even really has to like each other to make great music. Straight up I think that you just have some guilt maybe for being the reason things got bad. Bottom line that was then this is now.

Yeah your absolutely correct mate. Thats all it is, guilt. The idea of playing overseas and weeks away from home seems like a horror story to me know.
I'll ditch the idea, I'll take the singer out on the lash anyways, maybe drop into a couple of local'ish gigs.

I've only inferred bits and pieces of history with your old band, but given that much I would:

a) Ask Mrs Ninja what she thinks

b) Do whatever she says

...unless your musical undertakings have absolutely no bearing on your family life , of course, which seems like an impossible dream to me.. :)

Nick, one is never too carefull making decisions based on hints. You know the other day my wife was hinting me about her Christmass present. She said she wanted something shiny that goes from 0 to 150 in about three seconds. So I bought her a bathroom scale.
You can't be the most popular guy all the time with everyone. That's life. Do want you want to do the most and so be it. It seems to me, based on what I've read so far that you just need just a small push because you already know what you want. Do it my friend. :)

Actually guys I've made my mind up and acted on it. I offered the band my services for any upcoming records. They know I'm superfast in the studio. Its rough track then 2 tracks of rhythm and 2 of lead. The last 3 albums for them I did the guitars in a day each time. Me and the singer are going out on the town sometime over the holiday period, as I said before we were on speaking terms a good few months back.
Twelvebar and Straycat's advice has pretty much caused this decision. There is nothing on this planet more volatile than a punk band. Punchups on stage and with promoters offstage were a all too regular occurance. Besides which, I'm just too old for rebelion these days.

Time to put my slippers on and shuffle off into middle age. I may buy a pipe.

See.
A pipe
Half a bottle of scotch
A strat with a locking nut.

What else could a man need.

We need to see them slippers Rhumba. I've worn holes in my guiness slippers and refuse to post a picture of them. They've been in their delapidated state for a few months now. I havent replaced em to give the kids a easy option for crimbo.
