I put a new tweed grill cloth on an old Carlsbro amp I recently got off Freecycle. I thought I would share the before and after pics. The thing sounds pretty sweet too. I had posted in an earlier thread how I cleaned up the pots and soldered in a new fuse holder. This was a great find, and I'm digging the tweed.

This is how I found it.

It looks very nice!!!! I love doing those kinds of changes for people because it can makes a nice visual impact on a piece of equipment.

Hiya Kong.

I'm a longtime Carlsbro fan. They made some great amps that have largely gone unrecognised. Sadly they went into administration earlier this year (The bassist in my band, a high priced accountant did the dissolution). A real loss to the English amp world. A friend of mine designed their last DSP amp.(the factory is 30mile up the road)

I had a lot of fun playing the patches and giving lofty opinions on that (look where that got em eh  ).
Note on that review they make a point of saying that the tone controls of the amps are very wide ranging. That is true of all carlsbro amps. Whenever I took my marshall round to Rob's he'd moan about the tone controls not doing anything. Constantly.

The Lead amps to the best of my knowledge were from the mid 80's going to around 94. Very reliable and no nonsense kit. Even their 70's solidstate amps were great sounding. They had a clean but just verging on the begining of breakup sound. Kind of straddling the no mans land between clean and the mildest of driven tone. Almost like a fender twin about a notch below where breakup starts.
Your amp is a straight clean or drive channel one if memory serves me right?

Love them Carlies.

Cool Stuff, Ninja - thanks for sharing.

Not sure if I completely understand your question. The amp has a low gain and a high gain input, base and treble controls, a great sounding spring reverb, along with the gain and master volume knobs. There is also a pretty cool parametric equalizer that seems to boost or cut certain frequencies depending on how you set it. I like playing it through the low gain channel for a clean reverb sound. I live in a condo, so I have not had the chance to put it through its paces on the high gain settings, but I suspect I sounds brilliant. You can't beat it especially for free!
