Today I was sent home sick due to the Flu. I am positive for type A strains. I was given Tamiflu and I am taking Day/Nyquil now (not at the same time). This is my second round of Flu and Tamiflu. Funny thing is I have had my Seasonal and H1N1 flu vaccines. Just goes to show you that the Vaccines might not work for everyone.

I've never known anyone to catch it twice in the same season. Hope you feel better soon.

Most vaccines are dedicated to fighting one particular strain of flu.At the beginning of the flu season the WHO and other health oriented organizations try to predict which strains will become prevailent and serum is made up to fight these strains. It is all a guessing game as the pharmacudical companies couldn't possibly produce enough vaccine to combat every bug, while you did get a flu,it's highly unlikely it was the strain you were innoculated against.

Get well soon. Hopefully the vaccines will make it milder for you than it would have been.

Thanks for the kind words. I hope I feel better soon as well...I feel like Death warmed over.

Randy1,

I do not feel as bad as I did the first time around, maybe that is the immune system fighting it better than before.

depending on your normal health some doctors recommend not taking tamiflu so youre immune systems fights the virus off its self and builds anti bodies, thats what my Doc had me do when i got the flu about a month and a half ago

It was my doctor that gave me the Tamiflu, Seasonal flu vaccine, and the H1N1 vaccine. It is just my understanding that vaccines only cover the strains put into them. This strain I have is just a strain not predicted by the CDC/WHO.

My general health is fair. Plus my doctor wants me back at work ASAP...since I am his nurse...so Tamiflu it is.

My Son and I just got our H1N1 shots this evening and got the seasonal one like a month an half ago. But I do think there are times when they miss on a strain in the seasonal shot. They have to look so far out to which strains they think will be the ones that come about.

Hi RK: hey, I bet your patients don't want you back at work ASAP!! Wait till you're not infectious, huh?

Real flu is crap: I'm very sympathetic. Put your feet up till you are good and mended. Some nice music and lots of sleep!!

Hope you're feeling better soon.

Cheers - C
