They must be going for the collector market by only making 1000 of the things. I'm not a fan of the whole robot/modelling/auto guitar (I also don't dig modelling amps).

If all your sounds are preset and dialled in at the factory, where is the next great guitar sound going to come from? Guitarists are supposed to tweak and experiment and fiddle with knobs and effects until WHAMMO there's that tone you were looking for.

We don't need the guitar or amp companies telling us what Rock and Roll should sound like.

Wow that tiger sure is different. But it's the price that's a turn off! Over $4k is a bit much.

In the interest of sympathy, not only for Gibson with the ugly tiger...

...but for all manufacturers, trying to figure out what the public REALLY wants is an arcane art, like casting bones or reading tea leaves or star charts

And now US manufacturers have itespecially tough, trying ot out-talent everyone else in the world.

But JSJH here's what I think is at the heart of the situation . . . they already did it right. The guitars already exist, people WANT Les Pauls, and SGs (and Strats, and Teles). What Gibson is trying to do here is create a market and increase sales by introducing a new product. There is no market need for the Dusk Tiger guitar.

I just went to the Gibson link. I don't think it's the ugliest guitar ever, but it's close. What kinda turns me off is the technology. I sort of appreciate my Tele more. 2 P/ups two volume pots and nothing else. Pure!

Agreed. All the tones have all been made by the basic setups that have been around for 50 or more years. I'm sure there are a few more tones out there, but for $4G's+ I'd rather make an investment in a vintage guitar and/or amp that's going to go up in value. What will happen when the "RobeTune" breaks. Will it be known as the autotune system formally known as Robotune?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say I like it. The ONLY problem I have with guitars like these is that there are too many bells and whistles for my taste. If something goes wrong like the Dark Fire guitar, you have to send it back and wait for a new one. F*ck that. If I can't fix it myself or take it to a local repair person, I will not buy it.

Also $4k is just MSRP. Sticker is less. And with only 1,000 being produced, Gibson has already sold every single one of them to retailers. So they have nothing to worry about. Collectors will buy them and probably not play them. Too me, that is the biggest tragedy. Like having a really awesome car and never driving it or a super hot wife and not...well...you know. Collectors just make it so players can never own certain guitars. They just artificially inflate the prices.

Iagree with nik ,I like the top, Ihave a couple of LPs and they are good guitars. So looks are subjective. I hope gibby pulls it together ,healthy competition is good for the industry.

I give Gibson credit for at least trying to market something different but damn like guys already stated who the hell is designing these things. It is as if they are trying to combine old ugly with new ugly. Even there reissue of the Night Hawk got blasted. I actually always liked the way that guitar looked and the reissue looks like a real cheap take on a pretty decent design and got blasted on Gibsons site for that reason.

I also agree with 6Twang in the regard that at least Gibson attempts to create something new. I have stated many times how I wish Fender would come out with something with humbuckers that is outside the box of a tweaked Tele or Strat. Look at Ernie Ball MM and look at the guitars they have made over the last 20 years. The EVH/Axis- The Luke-The Petrucci- The Steve Morse-The Albert Lee-The Silhoutte- This company has really come up with some great $@! kicking guitars all in the last 20 years. The necks are beutiful birds eye and the Quilt and Flamed Maple bodies are just beautiful and some of the wickedest colors you will find. Now why cant Fender work with an artist on this level(which is at the top) and give them the reigns to create some axes that are not Strats or Teles that are tweaked. I think any of these guys would of jumped to work with Fender first but I dont think Fender wants to stray from there big 2. So a company like EBMM can produce 7 succesful Humbucking guitars in 20 years and Fender has 0 in 60. Really open up and let some great players go outside the box.

dont wanna start a mass heart attack here. but something in me actually kinda likes it now. i didnt when i first saw it. but had another look, it'd, different. i dont like the rhythm pickup plate, nor the switch plate either. but otherwise, well, well done for somethin different gibson. i've hated all these flame-type thingys they been doin. not their flamed-finishes, rather those stupid duotone ones they been doin. i'll prob change my mind as soon as i hit send, look at it again and hate
