Neither do I. But then, that's typical of an Aries. 8)

And what makes it worse is that I am very typical of the archetypal aries male. Brash, haeadstrong, over opinionated, loudmouthed.

I never stood a chance did I? Born in the year of the (p)rat, and an aries too.

Them great big balls of burning gas and rock have a lot to answer for.

Well nearly a thousand years ago, in merry England, we had this King called Harold who fought this battle at Hastings, with some Norman dudes.
The year was 1066 and we've always referred to it as ten sixty six.
What as that got to do with this? Well not much but I'm going to call it twenty ten. Yeah right.

Hi Rhumba: and one of the interesting facts about the Battle of Hastings is that it was not in fact fought at Hastings but a few miles up the road at a little village called... Battle.

Now what are the odds on that?

Yeah!! That's right Ceri, I've been around the area.
Sad really for Harold, it was a battle he shouldn't have lost, probably too many subs on the field and William sneaks a winner in extra time.
Ah well, it's all history now.

Was the town named that after the battle or would it have been the Battle of Battle?

Another thing I remember is that the battle took place between Harold and his army on one side and William and his 9000 Normans - after the most confusing roll call in history. :D

Cheers - C

PS Rhumba, it is quite possible you know where I'm lifting my material from on this. If so - well, now I've admitted my plagiarism...

PPS CC, it's just my adolescent sense of humour. Pay no attention... :D

Yeah right Ceri, I know you're heavily into archaeology and that encounter was indeed an interesting one and I've watched a few documentaries on it.
Harold defeats an army of Vikings to the north and then marches south to face William. Hard as nails, those guy's.
BTW. Did you know Harold, apart from King, was the Earl of Wessex? a title taken by one Prince Edward in recent years.
If I'm correct, the title was not removed from the nobility list by William.
Fascinating stuff, hey what?
