I want to know the reason for this.
Is this means there are no opportunities left for Musicians in Europe?

what about European music contests, aren't they helping talent to grow?

What I know about music shows/contests is that they provide platform for young and talented musicians to display their talent to the world.

All music contests are not drama.

Well the fact that every major country owes China or Japan money tells me that we all work for asian industry.

Hi enigmatic348: to my ear there are a couple of very odd assumptions going on in your question.

For starters, every Russian I've met regards themselves to be European, not Asian. Any Western European working in Leningrad/St Petersburg or Moscow is still working in Europe. Vladivostock? OK, that would be different...

Next: Russian and other East European musicians flooded into West Europe after Perestroika, most particularly in the classical field. If you look at the personnel of any Western orchestra you will find it awash with East European names. I don't know if the same thing happened in American orchestras, but I wouldn't be surprised. It got to the point where Western trained musicians started finding it more and more difficult to get a job.

Ostensibly that had to do with the rigorous training in the East - the Moscow Conservatoire and such. In reality it is because those people were delighted to work for wages that were modest by Western standards. Money money money.

And what applies to the rank and file of orchestral, band and session musicians goes double for conductors and soloists. When I look down the listings for concerts in my city they are smothered in unfamiliar Eastern names.

And all of that goes for the rest of Asia too. Concert listings are also full of Chinese, Korean and Japanese names. For example, I live in London and the sight of Mitsuko Uchida riding past on her bicycle has become famous in my town. :D

I suppose now you are going to tell me you were only thinking of some tiny little corner of pop music/reality TV. What I'm suggesting is: see the wider picture.

Cheers - C

Asian money is everywhere, not just in music. 2 of the biggest spenders/investors are are China and Japan...For example, a large portion of XM/Sirius Satellite, if not still currently owned, was owned by 1worldspace which is an Asian based company.

Thanks for lots of interesting info! i didn't really know about that stuff with jobs in orchestras - but I just feel the increasing power of Asian influence (is it Russia, or China with Japan). but all these things I think are because of money and good financing. I think that less Eastern-European but mainly Russian money which came to European show-biz caused such changes... Who pays those choose... :(
