Hi folks, just curious to know whether any of you use 'The SWIPE' - a special coth-covered shaped card for cleaning strings? I've just got some in, but never used them myself... I've always been a big fan of Fast Fret but find that it doesn't clean under the strings and sometimes leaves too much gunk on the strings. Is this a useful tool, or just a gimick?

I had never seen that before. It looks interesting.

I just hook a string under my fingernail and start sliding the gunk off. I've tried that Fast Fret stuff before, only once though, it left the strings and everything else sticky and I hated it.

I use to try all that fancy cleaner type of stuff back when I was starting, the excitement of learning the guitar makes you want to try everything and do everything to your guitar. I just don't worry with that stuff anymore. It's just not a big deal.

I believe all the crap their selling is just hype to try to get everybodies money. You can find everyday stuff lying around your house that's perfect for doing anything to your guitar.

Rubbing alcohol works wonders for cleaning strings. It'll cut right through the sweaty gunk and it evaporate quickly and won't leave any type of residue behind.

Machine oil (like 3-in-1) is perfect for putting on your bridge, especially all the screws and where the strings lay on the saddles. It keeps the rust away and your tremolo working smoothly, and it also cuts down on string breakage at the saddles.

Everybody should know this one. Pencil lead (graphite) in your nut will help the strings slide easily especially with a tremolo. It'll help with tuning problems.

Nope!!! I don't buy nothing no more. I've been using this stuff for the longest time and haven't had any problems.

I don't use any of that junk either. When my strings loose their sparkle....I change em! Usually once every week or two, depending on usage.
