I've been looking at late 70's model teles and then came across a late 77 tele custom with the humbucker neck pickup that has me intrigued.

I want some opinions here:

What's the difference in sound/tone between the two with the single cole/humbucker neck pickup being the difference?

Anything else that would play into differentiating the two?

Overall opinions on the regular tele vs. tele custom (were talking late 70's models here, 76-79)?

Any info would be appreciated!

a Fender Telecaster bridge single coil is a single coil that can really cut through, that is the reason the Tele neck is humbucker while the bridge is single coil.
Unlike the Strat bridge single coil, which explain why a Strat with a humbucker such as HSS, has the humbucker in the Strat bridge while the Telecaster has the humbucker in the neck instead.
If you are looking for fatter tone outside the Tele bridge position ( that means in the neck position), you can opt for a Telecaster with neck humbucker.
Unless for those players who play only double humbuckers like Gibson all the way, the Tele bridge pickup is usually single coil.
