I'm new to playing, about 6 months and doing pretty good IMHO :-) Now I'm looking for a loop station (was told it will help a lot). I'm pretty sure I want the Boss, but I can't decide, or better, figure why to choose the Boss RC-20XL over the RC-2. It's quite a bit more money and reading the specs can't seem to see the huge advantage.

I'd like to get others opinions/suggestions.

Thanks.

I have never tried the Boss looper but have many other boss pedals and the quality is great….I have the Digitech jam-man looper…it kind of spendy but sure is a lot of fun and is helpful in learning a lot of things, helping timing and brings a new feel to practicing. I think any loop pedal you pick will be a good investment, just make sure you do some research on them that way you don’t pay extra for features that you don’t need…or want

I have the first one they came out with. It's the RC-20.

It still works perfectly and I have never been sorry I bought it.
The reason I never upgraded to one of the newer versions is - i never saw a need to. This one does what I want it to.

So, yes I like it and can recommend it - based on my experience with mine. I feel that it did help me. If I were buying another one today - I would look at the specs, and find the one that fits my needs.

i.e. - Questions to ask - What do you anticipate doing with a looper? How much time do you actually need?

IMHO Boss makes an excellent product. I have had ZERO problems from mine.

Good luck

I just recently got a Boss RC-2 and I'm still getting the hang of it but its really fun so far. Its great to record a loop and add drums to it (through the built-in drum phrases) and then add more onto it. Its great to add a rhythm guitar, add in a bass line, basically add in whatever you want and then play over it. Its really great at practicing staying in time and really fun to just jam along with! With my experience with it so far I'd definitely recommend it.

Thanks everyone for your input!

I just picked up a used RC-2 on CL for $100. For that price, I figured I couldn't go wrong, even if I ever wanted to upgrade to the RC-20XL, I'll get my $100 back out of it!

Rock on!

I'd say you did very well at $100 semolians. If you really get gonzo into it like a chocoholic, and just hazta upgrade, here's a coupla points to remember: the rc20 xl allows recording of up to 11 tracks in it's memory, with 16 minutes total recording time for all 11. If you use up your 16 minutes recording say 10 tracks, when you try to record number 11, you'll get a memory is used up message, and won't be able to do the 11th track. You can also lay down up to 11 tracks at once playing live, creating really amazing musical combinations! The rc20 xl can also employ addon boss fs-5u single button foot switches. Use 2 together for more options on the rc20 xl. There is another boss two button switch box, but i like having two fs-5u's for more even more options, like if you need two separate foot switches for two different effects boxes, you can separate them. They hook together great, and cost no more for two of them than the single two button box at guitar center. Check out the offical boss rc20 xl demo vid on youtube, for how the footswitches work. More on youtube to be found at the end of this rant! The digitech jamman allows a longer time limit in it's memory, and even more, by incorporating an addon memory card, if you need that much. Oh, and let's not forget the boss rc50 which is said to be like having 3 rc20 xl's hooked together! Thoroughly comparing different brand's bells and whistles will give you all the nollige you'll need to score the best rig for ya! And mebbe the prices will drop on them high toned boxes sometime soon? You can see some pretty good looper vids and demos on youtube, where some of the vids provide excellent styles and methods of using a looper to create some pretty awesome tunage! have fun, Cheers!

Congrats on getting the RC-2! I bet you'll have a great time with it. I've been using it almost non-stop since I got mine. The possibilities are endless.
