Any one own a Hofner bass, especially the Icon? I'm going to pick up bass and I can get one here in town for around $350 plus case and the shop store owner said he can order one and try it out and not pay for it unless i like it.

Here are pics and links

I have a '95 V63 "Beatle" bass and a '02 V61 "Cavern". Love them both.
This is just my opinion, but if I were you I would save up and get the real thing. Sure the Icon has the Hofner name on it, but it's still a copy.

well, I don't need the $2,000 bass, I just need a bass to use, nothin real fancy since I play guitar.

I also could never afford it even if I could convince my parents to even help pay I'd be in debt for years!!

I'm still working of my Tele and Amp!!

This is my first post here but I JUST bought a black Hofner Icon about 3 weeks ago. I have used it the past 2 weekends on gigs and am really enjoying it. I am completely new to the whole "Hofner" thing but needed a bass for more acoustic type sets and I hated every one of the acoustic basses I have tried.

I like the feel and sound of it so much that yea, someday I'll probably buy a "real" Hofner. But I look at it this way, it's a $350 Beatle bass and if you're looking to try that sound then it's a good way to start. If you take the crummy strings that will be on the bass new off right away and put a decent set of short scale flats you'll have instant thumpy Paul McCartney type tone.

It's an easy bass to play and for the money it actually sounds pretty nice. AND it does say Hofner on the head, so even though it's a cheapy I think it's a little more credible than some of the other import Beatle bass copies out there.

Just my opinion but so far I am really happy with it.

Greg

Hey thanks a lot for that. I just wanted a bass just to have one, and I always have loved the Beatles.

Can you show me pics and I had a question

hows it feel?
