Call me a stickler, but I go with doughnut.

I also prefer barbecue over bbq.

Although I confess to using ketchup instead of catsup. 8)

Doughnut, correct English.

http://www.askoxford.com/concise_oed/doughnut?view=uk

It also states that donut is a US term. Well we invented the language so I say doughnut. After all if you break the words down you still get dough and nut. A do nut sounds like something some one with serious problems may attempt to eat. How about a doggy do nut

I recently watched Doughnut Paradise on the Travel Channel. The owners from Voodoo Doughnut in Portland said that doughnut is the proper way. Anytime they see donut, they think "do nut", like doo nut.

Anyway, who wants some Krispy Kreme now?

CV thats not a doughnut. My oh my are those things so not doughnuts. Their utterly disgusting. You need to come to the bakers round here and bite a football sized lump of dough that explodes strawberry jam and custard all over you. I think they got a few of the letters completely wrong on that brandname.
