The family watched a broadcast of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Concert on Sunday night and we made a little game of recognizing the guitars used by the various artists. We joked that it appeared that Fender had underwritten the concert because Fender guitars outnumbered all others by a huge margin. There were some beauties represented too. Strats and Teles ranging from (truly) road worn to pristine and from basic instruments to some very fancy upgrades. I would have loved to have been back stage to look at the racks full of those guitars!

Fender should be proud of the numbers of artists using their instruments.

I watched that show on HBO myself and thought it was a great show. Very unlike most of the ones I've seen. Lot's of Fender gear for sure. 8)

I wondered as I watched if forum member zzdoc was in attendance!!

Well as my luck turned out I posted the viewing on the forum and had a wedding.lol Thank God for TVO as my brother recorded it for me and I will pick a day this week I can kick back for 4 hours and enjoy myself. As what I have been hearing sounds like it lived up to its billing.

I watched it with my extended family in west Texas. I couldn't get them stop talking during Jeff Beck and Stevie Wonder, and by the time they finally decided to listen it was over. Then my step-grandmother wouldn't stop singing on those folky songs, so it was very hard to enjoy. I'll just watch it on youtube later.

Not an unusual finding. It's been an industry standard for years.

That was an 'industry ticket' as I call it. I've been so preoccupied with domestic projects that I haven't even had a chance to watch the re-broadcast, though I'm told that a couple of kids from the old neighborhood in Queens did themselves real proud.

I was at the concert and "A Day In The Life" was stunning. Jeff Beck really was phenomenal.

It's worth the watch. Not your run of the mill Rock and Roll Hall of Fame typical junk. No commercials and not loaded up with hip-hop and rap!!

My brother dropped off the dvd of the show he made for me and I kicked back with my youngest son and was in a trance for the next 4 hours.

It just proved without a doubt that you can throw away all the pro tools and nonsense that goes on today with how people look and how true talent is king.

This is the way it used to be and should be today. I was never a big CSN fan but God how where those harmonies for a bunch of guys in there 60s, and Stephen Stills who is a great player just had that big fat Strat tone. Simon and Garfunkle who I always liked the same thing, just in great voice.

Stevie Wonder sounded 20 years younger and that was some moment when he was singing Michael Jacksons The Way You Make Me Feel and just lost it and started crying.Smokey Robinson who is one of the most talented writers and one of my favorite singers ever looked and sounded like a guy in his mid forties instead of a guy in his 70s. Then Beck on Superstitious showed why he is the master and maybe the most humble player out there as he made it seem he was honored to play with everyone he jammed with.

There is just way to much to discuss and I would advise against watching it how HBO has broken it down now if you can. Springsteen, U2,Metalica,StingGibbons,,Ozzy,Joel,Aretha,Davies, Fogerty, Jagger,BB,Fergie and 20 other greats just seemed to create a magic moment and concert to remember

Fenders were by far the ax of choice and there was just some amazing playing. I was amazed at how Springsteen kicked it up a notch and did some great soloing instead of leaving it up to Miami Steve or Lofgren he let it fly and his Ghost of Tom Joad with Tom Morello was a definite highlight and classic. I had only heard the acoustic version and I dont care for Bruce when he makes an acoustic album, and I knew Rage had done a heavy version and this number blew me out of my shoes and will be the way I think of this song. Like Hendrix version of Watchtower. I would not be surprised if this is the way Bruce performs this from now on.The Edge also kicked it up and did more solos than usual. And how were those sounds of Strat and Les Paul-Beck and Gibbons/Tele and Les Paul Springsteen and Fogerty or Explorer and Tele -The Edge and Springsteen. Boy they sound great together

OK the only person that made me cringe was Lou Reed(sorry to any fans out there) but if he has any talent he left it at the hotel.Walk on the Wild Side is the only song of his I ever liked. I cant understand anything that has this guy in the Hall of Fame except a lot of friends

[quote="straycat113"]My brother dropped off the dvd of the show he made for me and I kicked back with my youngest son and was in a trance for the next 4 hours.

I caught the last 45 minutes of the second half on replay Friday night. The entirety is still available on HBO On Demand through 1/4/010 so maybe I'll take a shot at that tonite.

With regard to Springsteen, I pointed out to Miami Mike privately that that man appears to use the guitar often as just a prop. It's seems impossible to go though chord changes with your left hand consistently in a first position location and just picking at two center strings. Mike observed that with both Niles and Stevie, he really doesn't have to play much.

I expect that the arrangements are structured such that he comes in at the indicated time and that, with the immensity and complexity of the sound of that band, that there's an engineer in overall control of the mix.

Doc
