I've given few guitars to family and friends. Tell the truth its a gift that keeps giving. Ok nothing in the 4K range but some nice players non the less. The biblical saying is what you sow, you reap. Or what goes round comes round. I like to sow what I reap. Afterall I was given my first guitar.

Personaly I cant think of anything better to do with a les paul after my recent trial by fire trying to buy one. (JK)

Good job that man, you made someone very happy according to my experiences.

Now Hortis about that 57 relic I've been hankering after...

Funnily enough I got to play a 63 tele yesterday. Suprisingly light with a tremendous sound. Then the guy in the shop handed me a early 90's 52 reissue. It wasnt anywhere near as quirky sounding.

The guitar was so light it was unbelievable. It was like balsawood light. The neck was thinner than my jackson too. Very un-tele-like but very appealing.

That will be my next guitar. Guaranteed.

Uh-hu. Only bit of this story I don't understand is the future tense. Will be?

Whatever happened to IS?

C'mon man, we all know that shop manager has you taped. Go pop the plastic, bring home the goods.

Then post the pictures.

Cheers - C

Very hard to articulate. Playability seemed better on the newer guitar. The newer guitar didnt seem anywhere near as focus'd on a particular sound though. The sound of the old guitar came through no matter what pickup was selected or where the volume and tone knobs were set. It was a case of the electrics complimenting the guitars sound rather than the guitar being a vehicle for the electronics. Which seemed to be the case with the latter guitar. Another guy in the shop, a very seasoned old pro prefered the newer guitar because of its ability to cover a wide range of sounds. Horses for courses, as they say.

Based on that experience vintage instruments seem to be the way to go.
