Tried a Starcaster for the first time this weekend.....
We were messing around at Costco (I picked up a couple#'s of Havarti cheese ooooh I love that stuff , but I digress) and spied a guit plugged into an amp.
So (because shopping with the wife is as painful as bamboo shoots up your fingernails...I digress again... :P ..) I ran over and strummed a bit on it.

Then I really started putting it through my usual. I was pretty impressed.
I spend a great deal of time in these forums defending Squiers and some other cheaper guitars.I have seen Starcasters in the past , mothing jumped out at me. But this one surprised me.
I may have to pick one up when I get my projects finished.

As a beginner guitar, it is pretty good. Beginners today do not know how good they have it compared to ... say ... back in 1980.

Glad you are impressed by these guitars. It does it's job...a beginers guitar. The ones I played were not intonated and the pickups were a little staticy.

Well I wouldn't compare it to my American Deluxe....
I agree it isn't like the beginner guitars I had to back when I started.
But honeslty I expected a lot worse.

What with modern production capabilities it's fairly easy to make decent, consistent parts. So the Starcaster while it's not abysmal, is a very consistent low end guitar as far as the components go. Yes they get the job done, and it's a great way to get your kid involved in music. No I wouldn't want to own one unless I had no other choice.

Yea, I understand. They are better than the "starters" I had back in the day as well. I also expected worse when I played one.

I am jealous of the new starters...lol
They are pretty good guitars. I amost feel guilty for having a slight prejudice in the beginning when I first saw them.
