I never worried about such things back in the days. But people didn't bother me much in school I was in that bunch that people did not cross and everyone wanted to be friends with. Odd part was I always got A's and B's never even trying, skiped one grade and had a choice to do another and did not. Used to party hard  and all it was the 70's you no. Teachers would be like wow and all the local enforcement knew me by name. The Principal called me his Enigma!!!!

so in school today i was talkin about some new song ideas with some friends and a kid was like "you play?" i said "Yeah" he says "how good are you?" i said "im pretty good, been playin' for 5yrs." he says "so can you solo like Hendrix and s***" i said "nah man im not that good, i can solo a bit but nothin major." he says "aaawww then you can't play man. you're not a real guitarist."

this got me so mad. has it come down to the point where if you can't make up intricate, long, solos you can't play? i mean come on. so what if i can't solo like hendrix or clapton, does that really matter? so what if i like makin' up chord progressions instead of solos. does that not make me a guitarist?

just wanted to vent

I do not know what is going on in this world of ours. If you have a talent or interest that is different than someone else, you get belittled because of it. It has been like this for years. Other people have to put others down to make themselves feel better. This kid that said this to you probably cannot even play a chord, so what difference does his words mean to you as a player? Let it bounce off.

Don't let it bother you Little Bro. You've got a group of real friends here from around the world. We all play at different levels and have different talents. Real friends encourage and respect each other.

I learned a long time ago not to let guys like him bug me. Just keep doing what you're doing. School and peer pressure sucks sometimes, but don't let the sheistheads get you down.

Keep on playing!

Stryder,
The next time, just ignore the little twit; he's not worth the aggravation.

Bro.. Just remember one thing. Who cares what the guy thinks.. It's all about the women.

Don't beat him up. Steal his girl. Women love guitar players way more than X-Box gamers.

Is this guy's opinion valuable? Does he know a lot of stuff?

Doesn't sound like it.

Meh. Move on.

Strider I have said in many a post when I started out playing all I ever played was rhythm, in fact longer than your five years. All I wanted to do was learn to play songs from beginning to end and the correct way. I also was someone who downplayed my abilities and still do and also was someone that was in the crowd that everyone else wanted to be in.

So what does it all mean.lol The guitar has been my best friend through thick and thin and has brought me more happiness outside of my family than anything on this planet. You have the ability to take it as far as you want to go. If the time has come and you want to play some Hendrix believe me you can do it. Maybe this is an incident that has happened to make you take your playing to another level. You could sit down start working on some scales and licks and put the time in and you will get there believe me. Or if you are content doing what you are doing that is fine to.

No one can ever master the guitar as it is infinite, it has no end. It is a journey you start out on that takes you down a road that has no ending. How far you want to go down is up to you.

Take the high road, it's not as bumpy.
The only one you need to please is your self.

At one point in time Hendrix sucked.

Don't accept criticism from the layperson as something to seriously apply to your playing, and your attitude toward playing.

Just do your thing man.

As long as you play, you're a guitarist.
Don't let fools annoy you.
