I'm 17, and to be blunt, I need a @#$%^&* job.

I'd love to work at a store that sells guitars. I don't trust Yahoo Answers for a few reasons, so do any of you have any idea on the minimum age needed to work at, let's say a Guitar Center? I've been playing for about 5 years, and only play electric guitar through Fender.

Any help is appreciated. :]

The Guitar Center Job Application does ask the question, "Are you under the age of 18?" This suggests that they might not be willing to accept a 17-year-old for all positions. However, that doesn't mean you shouldn't go ahead and apply anyway. What have you got to lose? 8)

P.S. Check out their Careers Page for more details.

I doubt Guitar Center would hire anyone under 18. I used to work at a GC ten years ago in the operations department. That meant I did all the behind the scenes work at the store which included processing new hire paperwork. They never hired anyone under 18. Come to think of it, they rarely hired anyone under 21 or so. And knowledge of music or guitars is not really what GC is looking for in an applicant. They want to hire people that can sell, sell, sell.

I don't want to discourage you though. Maybe GC has changed their hiring policy in the past few years? The staff there seems to look younger and younger all the time.

Or try getting a job at a local mom & pop music store if there are any in your area. They seem to be more lenient regarding age. While in high school, I knew a couple of my classmates that worked part time at a local little guitar shop.
Good luck.

The guitar center where i recently lived had 2 high school aged kids in there so I'm pretty sure if you stay on them and show them you are persistent and reliable, you can get hired. I'd say go on a Friday night or Saturday since thats the day most people call out of work "sick" and let them know, "hey if you gave me a job, I'd be here working right NOW!". Good luck man!

Oftentimes depending on the job, or the job environment, there is an 18 and over rule mainly for insurance purposes. Just fill it out, and see what they say...
