Anybody else have any dealings with them this weekend? My wife tried to get my Christmas present a Squier Tele Custom II and the said it was excluded and neglected to give her the 10% off Fender is offering as well. So 3 long distance calls later and a wasted two hour and a half later the order is cancelled. I told her to get it from a honest dealer, there are some out there..I hope

There ad says that GC's 10% off one item can not be used in conjunction with any other promotional offer. That means there 10% off is all you get, not 10% plus promotional fender 10%.
It does suck but small writing is always part of the deal.

Yeah but they didn't even give the 10% Fender was giving...so she said someone else will get our business..Guitar Center won't and never will..at least not from me.

Guitar Center is certainly going down fast. Thier so called deals are just tactics to get you into the store. If you read the fine prints on "excluded items" when they have these so called killer deals, most popular brands that most want are excluded. So, why bother? You are better off buying your stuff online and buy only small stuff at GC, like strings, picks, cords, stands, and so on. Guitar Center is going down if they treat their customers like crap. I can see them going away like Circuit City really soon. I'm done with them. They are certainly not the Guitar Center of what they were once.

I don't know if the Fender discount included Squire. The local shop here Bill's was on Fender brand guitars not squires. Now she should have gotten the 10% off that GC was giving on any one product.

I only buy little things, picks, strings ect. from GC when they have promotional stuff, Ive always found that not only are the prices of bigger items nothing special, but even all of the sales people i have ever dealt with are rude.

I have recieved nothing but great deals and good service from GC. Just over a year ago, I bought a new MIA Standard Stratocaster for $750 with tax, and a DeVille 212 for $680 a month later. The clerks know me by name, and always make sure I get the service that I deserve.
Buy on clearance and haggle. Be picky. You will get the deals that you want.

Just my .02: The fine print was the dealbreaker for me. Basically it told me that if it was something that I wanted it wasn't discounted. And since they have brick-and-mortar stores in NC, I'd have to pay sales tax even if I purchased online. I hate haggling. GC can get bent. I'll support (and have supported) Sandhills Music (Hope Mills, NC), Edwards Music here in Fayetteville, NC and Music & Arts.

I am into AMS and MF. They always beat anyone's prices service is fantastic and they go the extra mile for their customers. AMS has even called me when something went on back order and asked me if I wanted to change the order to something else or just wait. I don't mind the waiting but I thought that that was a really cool thing to offer. Plus they don't do what the shops do. Ever notice when you buy a guitar from AMS or MF they include the case or gig bag? Go to a store and you end up having to buy it...totally not cool.

My birthday came early courtesy of Sam Ash Music.

On Thanksgiving day I visited the Sam Ash website and found that they would take $50 off any purchase over $225 "plus the 10% Fender and Squier discount". So I immediately thought of CV Squiers.

I went to Sam ash yesterday to test drive, and saw another pamphlet in the store that read $100 of anything over $600, and $150 off anything over $1,000 and so on up the scale. In addition to the 10%. They also held a drawing all day and were giving out free gear every hour. They really made it a fun shopping experience.

I went to 2-GC stores as well, the only Classic Vibes in both stores were Duo Sonics. Not my thing. I did see the 10% fliers, but that's it. No additional cash off deals.

Sam Ash had all of the models.

So after my test driving and running around, I came home and got on the Sam ash website again and purchased a Squier Classic Vibe 60's.

http://www.squierguitars.com/products/s ... 0303010500

$50 off, 10% off, free shipping, no taxes, $269 final price for a Classic Vibe 60's Strat.

It was a tough choice to make. All of them were killer and distinctively different. I actually thought the 50's Tele sounded the best to me. They really did a good job using the Alnico3's and a THICK chunk of wood for a body, to get a nice singing tone and separation of notation. BUT I have a bad back, and sometimes we play 2-hour sets. And I feel like I can get that Alnico 3 Tele sound out of the CV 60's with a little tweaking.

GC had some good deals on accessories for early birds, which I most definitely am not. So most of those deals were up in smoke.

Overall, Sam Ash was the winner in my book. (They even had some Charvel San Dimas guitars for $599. Nice deal too.)

And the sale is still going..

Since I live in Canada I'm not all that familiar with G.C. but from what I've read here and other guitar oriented sites I will stay well clear of them if I do any online purhasing.

I don't think GC is all THAT BAD.. I've scored some great deals from them in the past. But they didn't really creatively think out their Black Friday sale like Sam Ash did here in Vegas.

I will say this though, The GCs had more shoppers. Packed wall to wall. It was kind of surreal knowing that about 5-miles away the real sale was going on.

Damn man, I sound like a salesman for Sam Ash.. Hahaha. I don't work there, don't know any of the salesman. I just call it like I see it. Gotta give my props to the place.

I've negotiated some decent deals at my local GC in the past, but on a couple of occasions I've almost fallen victim to the fine print in their online offers. It seems all of the things I want are brands that are excluded from the "sale".

Right. And I noticed that a little myself yesterday. That's why I suspect there were no CV '50s or '60s to be found at the GCs. They would then probably have to honor a "we'll beat any price" policy they may have. And with the store down the street offering them at basically an $80 discount, their stock of them was nowhere to be found.
