To All Who Record and Post On the Web:

I am really new to this recording stuff. I have been working on stuff for a while and feel like I am ready to post some of my work. I am wondering just how to do it? Which program would be the best? I know there are a lot of factors to this.

First of all...What kind of interface do I need for the computer. Should I mike the amp into the computer or is it better to use a computer model amp and guitar only? (see I really am not sure what to do)

What program do I use?

Once I have a video, how do I download it?

I know that these are vague questions, I am just trying to figure out what to do.

If you are talking about posting on YouTube than you can do it

Analog way from video tape:
1. Mike your amp with the external camera mike if the room is large or simply record it directly to the camera directional built it mike.

2. Export the video to the PC first connecting the camera and pc/mac with FireWire or usb 2.0 cable/port. Second in the video editing software (i use iMovie/Mac) actually do the export

3. Once on your computer in digital format you can edit and perform the secondary export format for youtube (most programs today support this option) or for your own DVD. Youtube export will require you to have an account to be authenticated to place the movie online

Digital way from your Blackberry of any device that records digital:

Just copy the file directly to computer video editing software or on new windows you can get export to you tube widgets for direct digital movies. Or you can export it directly from BlackBerry or iPhone with the provision of the proper application.

There is a more sophisticated way of connecting a real studio mic and camera for high quality but due to compression of youtube movie format a lot is lost and you might not be interested at that.

I use MOTU's Digital Performer because of the flexibility in editing Audio sounfiles as MIDI secuence. I record trhu a MOTU 896mk3 Audio interface, maybe too big but there are another little ones. I use a Boss GT-10 for the guitar an when I want my Marshall amplifier I use a Shure SM-57 for the amp but mostly I record without the amp because of the time it takes and tha quality of the processor. I edit my videos in a Windows PC with Adobe Premier Pro and, when finished them, I upload them with iMovie (Mac) "share" function. Here you can upload to YouTube. Hope this works to you.

Not a beginner's studio, but very nice. Does MOTU work with PCs or is it only for Apple hardware? I do most of my recording "in the box", too.

MOTU's hardware works as good with Windows as Mac. The MOTU Digital Performer is designed only for Mac
