The biggest and best sports tournament in the world takes place next summer.

With Scotland not qualifying   and Ireland being cheated  :x I always support anyone who is in my blood as I believe countries should represent and entire nation, unlike clubs (these days  ). Therefore I'll be supporting U.S.A. for my Grandmother on my Fathers side.

I was wondering how many people are looking forward to the world cup and who they will be supporting. I know REAL football isn't that popular in the States so it's mainly to those outside U.S.A.

Cheers!!

Go Ireland (dad), go England (mother).

My girl friend's ex is Italian, she still cheers for the azori.

Hopefully will have a team to cheer for in the finals.

Whoever france are playin i'll be supportin. Tho a part o me would like to see them win. Because it would be a big two fingers to fifa if le cheat was handed the cup. Tho, on second thoughts, maybe not. Dunno, would love an african team to do it. If drogba and essien are fit the ivory coast have a chance. Plus their flag is a backwards ireland one. I'd love a major upset to win for a change and not one the usual suspects

I think that a europian country will win this year (like last time) and I think that Spain, Germany, Italy and the Le Cheaters (France for you who don't know) will be the top dogs to beat.

VAMOS España!!! 8)

Man the Cup can't come soon enough for me to be honest! I have been counting down the minutes since the final whistle of the last one!

I'll be looking forward to the USA and their inevitable dismissal from the Cup in the group stages. That's always entertaining to watch. Yes, I know they beat top ranked Spain, but they also lost to some pathetic teams long the way thus negating the whole "well we beat Spain, we are making leaps and bounds in the World game" line of reasoning. Let's face it, any team can get lucky on any day and that day was the day for the US. We saw how they were dismantled in the final by Brasil after getting the early lead and getting overconfident.

Not a knock to anyone that supports the USMNT, just a knock against the team themselves and the delusional fans. Fans of the USMNT who keep it reasonable with their support and commentary are usually good people and knowledgeable Football fans.

And maybe one day to humor me, Peru will make the World Cup again and allow me to cheer for my #1 team!

Well its basicaly a toss up between France, Germany, Italy, Argentina and Brazil. I reckon there will be a suprise performance from one of the Korean teams too.

England will never win it again. Football is far too political in its match fixing. Its far more like the eurovision song contest than a sport these days. Why else do we keep getting foreign managers forced upon our national team, when foreign players cant play for them? Bloody farce, erikson then capello. What about Harry bloody Redknap? He's prime for it even steve bruce could do better than that pair of jokers.

Now the important question should we have another soppy song like 3 lions

(Or "3 pints down my shirt, never stopped me drinking" as Gazza sings)

Or should we have a good uplifting song like Peter and the Test Tube Babies's "Smiling through the tears"?

No Spain? I think Spain would beat France Germany and Italy, most likely Argentina with the way they have played lately also. Brasil v Spain would be a final for the ages. But I can't see ranking anyone on that list higher than Spain other than Brasil, and my comment has nothing to do with me being a fan of the Spanish side, but based on having watched matches from all those mentioned quite a bit over the past year.

Heres why mate. Though your correct Spain are faves to win, i just doubt the ability of any side that get posed by USA.

Not meant to be derogatory to the USA side. Its a very new sport to them in a lot of respects. Though its been on US shores for well over 100 years its only really now coming to the fore. Theres a lot for the nation to learn and experience in football. Lets not forget Englands main downfall. Money making for great club teams populated by players of other nations whilst our own upcoming players remain largely ignored. Those foreign players cant then go on to make a good England side and you've limited your choice of players that can. A nation that throws money at sport like the US does is in great danger of falling into that trap. How much did LA Galaxy pay for Beckham? Aside from a little bit of imparting experience he did nothing for em did he?

Like they say, its a funny old game.

just look at it like in any day anyone can get lucky, as the US did. Argentina barely made it through South American qualifying. France needed a handball to advance. Italy and Germany are not what they once were. Brasil remains a powerhouse but can they put it together when it counts? They did just that in the Confederates Cup after trailing 2-0 to the USA, which the simple fact they got behind to the US would indicate they Brasil also isn't ready to win the Big game, right? I just get tired of seeing the logic that since Spain lost to the USA, it represents the fact that the US is a top notch wrold class side or that Spain isn't a great team. No offense taken, because I know Spain will play well and I don't fear a matchup against anyone but Brasil or possibly Germany. I think they would clean the pitch with France, Italy or Argentina.

Alot of the people using this logic that since Spain lost to the USA they aren't a threat also overlook it when their own favorite team or a nother powerhouse like Brasil, Argentina, Italy, Germant or France slip up against a lesser opponent, even lesser than the USA> I just think on any given day, anyone can slip up and lose to a subpar team like the US. Brasil lost to Bolivia in their qualifying, Italy, France and Germany all had matches where they played down to their competition in European qualifying. It's all about how they show up on the day of the big match, and I put little stock in a lucky win by the US over Spain, when that same us team struggled at points in CONCACAF qualifying an also hsn't been that impressive as of late.

The state of Football in the USA is like an carnival side show to me. It's funny much like a bearded lady but you go home and realize that is a joke. I do love to hear the delusional US fans and they 100000 excuses though. I have a running list of them and it never fails the day after a US loss to go to soccernet.com and look at the discussion and they are all there.

Enough talking!! BRING ON THE WORLD CUP

I'm supportin U.S.A. out of blood more than anything. Its like you said Niki bout the management of England. A nation should represent a nation from front to back.

$@!& the French though (team, not the nation, this kind of banter is common in football and not offensive in any way, just had to put that out for our Yank brethren  ).

That was downright dirty as I'm sure everyone will agree. I used to be such a Tierry Henry fan. So disappointed.

Hon, hon, hon, honkin.
