What is your opinions are the classic vibes as good as the MIM standards. I wanted a little more twang in my blues so when I ran a cross one today I put a 50's Tele in yonder layaway bin 8) . What do you think of these?

i've only played one but I was really impressed. I think it compared nicely up against a MIM but every guitar is a little bit different so I'd say they aren't that far apart in quality, craftsman and how they play. Just my opinion though both, some people probably own/have owned both and have a different take on it. .

I actually think they are cooler than your average MIM Standard and they play just as well.

I tried one out earlier this year and I was impressed by it. It was a Classic 60's sunburst. Nice solid feel to it.

Oddly, I was scouring the guitar stores for certain guitar parts, and saw only 1- CV in all 3 stores. Could be that they're being snagged up pretty fast these days. It wouldn't surprise me if that was the case.

To me it seems Fender have noticeably raised the bar for themselves with the Classic Vibe Squiers. Nice features, good timber, well done innards - and from what I've seen high build quality.

Usually quality and features trickle down the Fender range. This time it looks like the advance is coming from below!

The CVs deserve to be taken seriously.

Cheers - C

I think fender are raising their quality (and prices unfortunately) across the board on production guitars. The American made range has gone up in quality, for example the rosewood EJ the only $3000+ productionline instrument. Theres a whole host of improvements on the Mexican range that weren't their last decade (roadworns, deluxe players, classic players etc). The Standard is near if not bottom of the mexican pile now, whilst still being a very good guitar. The standards quality has actualy improved, its just that newer introductions offer more. The really clever bit is that they seem to have done this and still kept the idea of the Standard as a middle of the catalogue guitar firmly in peoples minds. They let it earn its respect then improved on it and introduced higher spec Mexican made guitars. Clever consumer manipulation that.
Its only fitting really that Squire guitars follow suit. After all FMIC would not be the strong company it is today without the humble Squire. Yonks before anyone else Fender were offering a legitimate budget version of their best guitars. A brilliant quality to price ratio that still hasnt been equalled by anyone. You'll pay way more than Classic Vibe price for a Epiphone of similar standard. That in no way is intended as a knock against Epiphone. Higher pricing than everyone else seems to have been Gibson's M.O until recently.
The only manufacturer that ever came close to Squire for price/quality was Yamaha with the Pacifica and the SG 200.

I think the biggest difference is in the depth of the finish. A Fender MIM will have more coats applied, or whatever they do to make the finish thick. My Squier, though, has Shoreline Gold which is an upscale color as Fender only has it on a few of their much more premium guitars. So ... maybe in the Squier they give you just a little less of that particular color compared to other more standard colors. I don't know...

After putting Fender MIA pickups in my Squier Vintage Modified, I find the gap between it and a Fender ridiculously small. The best part is the great neck which is ridiculously nice for such an inexpensive guitar. Also, I thought I would have to change tuners, but the stock ones are very good. I picked it up one year ago at last year's Black Friday for $240 at GC. Great guitar.

When I bought my Classic Vibe 60 Stratocaster, I was looking for a Fender Standard to be a back-up to my Highway 1 Stratocaster. I played a lot of guitars that day. Just about every MIM Fender Standards in the store, I also played a few Squires (VM, CV 50, Affiinity, and the SE Stratocaster with the chrome pickguard). I walked out with the CV 60 Stratocaster. IMO better quality and tone than any of the other models I played. I play it as often as I play my Highway 1 Stratocaster, although the HWY 1 is better overall.

I'm not sure if any of you have seen this yet. But if you go to the Sam Ash website this weekend, you'll get $50 off any purchase over $225, plus an additional 10% off holiday special.

That's $269 shipped for a Squier Classic Vibe!!

Nice deal!! :D
