What is more important to you for playing?

I'd say 60% amp/40% guitar.

Well I think a guitar amp is a pretty useless thing to a guitarist with no guitar. Saying that I play an amp as much as I play the guitar. So I guess i'd have to favour my first point of contact first and go 60% guitar 40% amp.

I'd say 60/40 Guitar than Amp. You can bend strings and add vibrato and such at the guitar. Can't bend an amp.

I tend to go along with you Mike. I would definitely spend most of my money on the amp. The exception being my CS guitar.

(all else, including people and picks, being equal)

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Hi Mike,

For Sure amps are important to voice an electric guitar.

But, it's mostly the all about guitar for me.

Cheers.

When I was in highschool, they used to teach us about "the multiplier affect" in drug & alcohol education, which was good because otherwise I'd have no idea what mixing drugs and/or alcohol did....

Applying this concept to guitars and amps....

There are HUGE differences in the way various amps sound.

There are huge differences in the way various guitars sound.

The potential variety of sounds available by mixing and matching variable-sound guitars with variable-sound amps seems endless.

So, if you arent "playing your amp" as much as "playing your guitar", you are missing 1/3-1/2 the signal chain equation and arent in control of the sound you produce.

SlapChop would be proud of me when I say that "every element within the signal chain (from brain-fingers-pick-string-body/neck/pup-pots-cables-amp-speaker) creates frequency distortions that affect what you hear".

Way to channel your inner Slapchop BigJay.

"Any reasonably decent guitar can sound good with a good amp. Not so the other way around."

+1

Some of you guys aren't answering the original question. :?

As in you are using both a guitar and an amp. Not one or the other.
