That depends- what's your budget? That's really the first place to start- To be honest my first "Fender" was actually a used Squier strat. I picked it up at GC for $80 and fell in love with it. Granted, Squiers can be hit or miss- but I've played nothing but Gibbies and Ibanez for 40+ years- that Squier played so nice- two months later I bought me a 2003 '70's Re-Issue Fender. And I'm hooked!
Back to your question - tell us what you can or are willing to spend- and we can go from there.

Who's your favourite guitarplayer/band ?
What kind of music do you play ?
How much can you spend ?
What's YOUR favourite Fender ?

It's like ''i want a car, which one ?''

Try to answer some of these questions and then decide.

Good luck with the search,

Peter

Try a Squier or secondhand Mexican Strat or Tele.

well with the kind of music you like i'd probably recommend something with humbuckers. i'd really wait and save up more if i was you but if you really want a guitar now your only options seem to be a used squire (hss strat or a tele with humbuckers would work best for you prolly) or i think you'd prolly be better off with a epiphone les paul or sg (they have a one pup jr. and a two pup special for a little more) but really you cant even afford those with 130$ because you have to get an amp too and a cheaper one still costs around 80-100 bucks.

R3, I would agree- with a budget of $130, your options are Squiers, Epiphones, there are other brands out there in that range but you really need to watch the quality and play it before you buy. If you can take a buddy with you who is knowledgeable, they can help prevent you from getting ripped off. And there's nothing wrong with going for a used guitar- again, just try to bring someone you trust with you. And there's always Ebay- but be real careful. The only other option would be to wait and save up until you can get into the $300-$400 range. Good luck!

I would have to say save a little bit more and get one of the starter packs that comes with a guitar and amp. Squier and Fender both have one that is reasonably priced.

If 130's your limit, I'd go to a store, and try out some Squier fat strats, bullets, or tele's. But like they say - some are better than others, so really 'try em before you buy em'
