This is a total newbie question, but here it is. When I change the tubes in my 5150 will I have to worry about the bias if I stay with the type of tube that the amp was built for? If I change out the 6L6's in it for say JJ 6L6's then will it just be a standard swap or will it be better to check the bias to make sure that it is still right? Never had to change the tubes myself before so this will be a first time journey for me.

You would need to bias it dude. Some dont but you REALLY always should.

Best of luck and welcome to the forum.

Which 5150 do you have? How many pre amp tubes?

Very early 1st gen Peavey (block number 5150). 5 pre amp tubes, 2 6L6 power tubes.

I was wondering because the newer ones have 6 pre amp tubes and adjustable preset bias test points instead of being fixed bias.
