Hey guys what's up. You know when you look at someone's profile and it says hobbyist, how do you freaking change it. I have tried many times and I can't get it to change.

Once you have posted enough, it will change. It first changes at 100 posts.

I still think it's a crappy system... makes you feel like you downgraded by joining this site :(

All of the guitar related forums I am on have a system similar to this. Each forum uses different names for their levels of participation.

Listen to nikki- she is a wise woman! :D
I am often amazed at how many folks ask questions without even trying to find the answer for themselves. There actually is a term for that...it's called a "spoonie".

yeah, when I first joined the community I was a little upset at being called a hobbyist. Almost 4 decades of guitar playing made being called a hobbyist kind of insulting until I figured out why.

Naturally we thought it'd be cute to use the forum rank to mimic the progression from amateur/beginner to worldwide-famous superstar. I was a little iffy on the "Hobbyist" designation as well, to be honest, so this is interesting to read. I'm wondering if there might be a less insulting designation that we could use to get folks started (feel free to suggest.)
