Just saw a preview for the R&R 25th anniversary concert and it looks great. Sunday 11/29 I believe it was HBO but I got hypnotized channel surfing. Performances by The Stones, Metalica, Jeff Beck,Springsteen, Billy Joel, CSN and a ton more. They also showed a clip of what looks like mixed jams, looks like a totally great show. I will definitely be recording this one.

I was at the second night. Jeff Beck was phenomenal, first time I've seen him live. Mick Jagger with U2 was really fantastic as well.

Mike26 where and when did this show take place. I am amazed a concert of this magnitude had no press leading up to it.

Solidbodylovesongs I am trying to make sense of what you are saying solid. Someone scary in the lounge I know? You are going to have to decode that for me.

It was at Madison Square Garden on October 29 and October 30. I was at the show on the 30th. I thought there could have been more press about it too, I remember seeing ads for it in The New York Times and Rolling Stone magazine but they didn't seem to advertise it nearly as heavily as one would expect for a show like that.

Sorry I wasn't more specific with my original post. I talked to you because I know you're a good forum Bro, asking 'you know'? meaning 'did you see the thread started with 'introducing songwriter ........' because when I started to read that thread description it wasn't about music at all but seemed like some kind of quasi political recruitment veiled behind a 'volunteer in a community to make a better world' for the party, thing. You guys that are always here make it a better world everyday through using your knowledge and experience to write well thought out and insightful posts about all things musical and sometimes even funny but not soliciting members of the Forum to do stuff. It was too long and I didn't want read it when it got preachy, it was too dissonant for me and became unpleasant to read further. I did let Brad know too because he has a handle on whats real and not here. Again my apologies. Thanks for responding.

Solidbodylovesongs from your first post on that thread I knew exactly where you were coming from, and from the images you were putting out you could very well of written a song like Here,There and Everywhere by the Beatles as what you described lined up with that song nicely. You then went into some dark Jim Morrison rampage but I could totally dig where you were coming from and I dont see any reason at all for being apologetic. Good work and keep it up. No reason to apologize what so ever.

Mike26 I cant believe that show was at the Garden. I live in Park $@!&# and not one person I hang with even mentioned that show, nor at the guitar store I hang in. This is blowing my mind that I missed a show like this especially when I saw most of these acts at the Garden growing up. The killer was missing Beck who played the Beacon in April for two nights and I found out a day later he was there. The only two people I have not seen that I want to are Gary Moore- though when I saw Queen in 76 Thin Lizzy opened for them and Moore played on that tour but I had no clue that was him till many years later when I read an interview and he said he was on that tour so I saw him but I didnt.lol And Jeff Beck, who at 65 my chances are getting slimmer to see him. You dont know how pissed I am to have missed that show.Or puzzled at the lack of publicity for a show of that epic proportion.

I too am surprised by how little press it got, especially when just regular gigs seem to sometimes get commercials on TV but this event didn't even get that, as far as I know. I didn't see any advertising for it on various music websites which was also surprising.

I found out about the event when over the summer when I went onto an Eric Clapton web site and saw that he was signed on to play at the second night. At that point I also learned who else was playing and when tickets went on sale in July, I jumped online and they weren't too badly priced, around $100.

Well Eric didn't show up after all but I was going mainly to see U2, one of my favorite bands. I've seen Clapton 4 times so I wasn't too heartbroken over that but I was excited to see that Jeff Beck had been signed to take Clapton's place. I'll admit that prior to this concert I was only a casual Jeff Beck fan. I had a few of his records and had enjoyed what I heard but it never really caught me like some other music has. But, from his very first note live, I was completely hooked. Its hard to describe what its like to watch him play guitar in person. The way he plays and the sounds he gets out that Strat are just phenomenal. Totally blew my mind. And seeing him play with String, Billy Gibbons and Buddy Guy was a real treat, one of those once-in-a-lifetime moments. Well, really, the whole concert was.

But, again, I totally agree about the publicity. You would think that there would have been a lot more press for a concert of this magnitude.

I think this concert is getting less and less press because they have gone away from actually showing Rock N Roll! It has gone mainstream and now caters to artists and groups that aren't rock n roll. When I heard LL Cool J was being inducted to the hall of fame, I just lost all hope and interest in it. Only a matter of time now before they have Lady Gaga, Kanye and Beyonce doing a song together and calling it Rock N Roll.

I really hope that isn't the case about the R&R HOF but theres alot of truth in what you said there dbr. I felt the same way when I saw that LL Cool J's name come up, the place just doesn't seem to be quite the same as it once was.

Being one of those who visited the R&R HOF when it first opened it never was what was expected even then. When it first opened the 2nd floor was the food and giftstore and a huge Pink Floyd display (the balloons for the Wall Album) and not allot of anything else. I went there almost every year for 5 years expecting it to get better and sadly it didn't.

So when was it really something to be proud of and not just another excuse for a large overly priced giftshop?
