Me on rhythm. I've only been playing for 8 months at that point, and not focusing hard on it. Decided to go to the Surfguitar 101 convention and wanted to play something. Got up there, nailed Endless Summer. Definitely understand why guys play in bands, and want one of my own!!!

Found out later my hero was there and liked what we did!!!!!

Well my finest moment thus far has been just learning new cord progressions or a new riff. I am still a novice by all accounts. Thats about it for me.

Toughie. Bein on a song that was compared with lou reed made me feel 50 feet tall. Especially considering how hungover i was in the recording session. But honestly, any time i playin with the band and the sonic bliss reaches that altitude where ya get the goosebumps, that's ALWAYS the finest moment

When I was in my early teens, I hung out with a bunch of neighborhood guitarists who were all in their mid to late teens where each and every one was way better than I. Each had a 'specialty', so to speak; who was the most proficient at Rock, at Blues, at Country, etc. I would always be asking one or another among them for some tips, techniques and to teach me various and assorted tunes. All were always willing, happy to oblige and to encourage me.

As time went on, we all faded out and went our separate ways.

Many years later, we all wound up together again at a wake. Afterward, we had an impromptu get together which resulted in an impromptu jam. They all were somewhat amazed and quick to tell me that I turned out to be just as good as any of them and even better than some.

These people were my all my local heroes for years who always tolerated this younger kind on the block, always eager to learn, literally on street corners. Such a compliment from them meant the world to me as they now regarded me as a musical peer. To this day, I regard this as probably the proudest milestone in my playing career, even more so than the day I was recognized as a professional guitarist/bassist by been inducted into the Musician Union at its heyday and the day I was pronounced a master luthier/technician, having come up from outright traditional, guild systems of training.

The first time I got to "play out" with my 13 year old son. Me on my Tele and him on his P-Bass, at a little bitty Blues gig. It was a fine, proud moment for me. I've played in front of more people, and on bigger stages, but that was the best.

The next day after a gig, I was out shopping and I was stopped by someone who asked if I was playing at the bar last night night. I told him yes and he complimented my playing. It was nice to receive a compliment from a complete stranger out of the bar environment.

Finest moment... first time I hit the stage. You know how they say you remember you first girl, etc... Well I don't remember the first girl anymore but remember the first gig. It was an accidental event, played as a stand in rytham guitar, did not know the set list that well or at all. Crowd of around 100 had a blast and nobody noticed mistakes

I am excited about the next big thing when my kids are old enought to start to teach them to play music.

YZF Joe I have to agree with you . Teaching my son is the coolest thing ever. and the fact he loves it and is extremely talented for an 11 year old, the kid has amazing dexterity makes me proud. I tried to get him to play from 7 or 8 and he did not take to it besides the fact both my boys are left handed I even bought him a little guitar I restrung lefty but I did not want to push it on him.. It was not until he got guitar hero for Christmas which really sent my blood pressure up that he came to me and said he wanted to play the real thing. So my view on guitar hero has softened, also he plays right handed now, as that is how he played the game so now he has a great choice of gear to play with and has to be brought down to earth as I hear him on the phone saying to his friends you have to get a Beck Strat or a Wolfgang. And I tell him so do you.lol

In 1985 when my band opened for Honey Moon Suite and .38 Special at the Weedsport Speedway...it was awesome at 20 years old to play my tunes in front of 18,000 screaming fans and some of the locals knew our tunes and really made us feel special!

About 5 or 6 years ago or so, we were playing one of our last gigs and the crowd was really into us and they were partying like there was no tomorrow. The feeling was almost electricity in the air. Yah, I know it's a cliché. Maybe divine inspiration would be a better description. We were doing a cover of ZZ's Tush and it was my turn to step forward. I stepped on my booster and began the best 24 bar solo of my life. I was doing things I had never done before, reaching for notes in ways that were not the norm for me. I had played faster before but never so musically and fluidly melodic. It was just the energy of the moment I guess. It's hard to explain the feeling. I was doing things I had practiced but never mastered like pinch harmonics and muted staccato runs and did them flawlessly. I was like I had been transformed up two full levels of ability from decent to star material. I even switched from bridge to neck and back to bridge during the solo with my baby finger while playing. For one minute I was a rock GOD and then it was gone. I've tried many times to recapture that moment or at least its essence. I sure wish somebody had been video recording that moment. The rest of the band definitely noticed and it was the topic of several discussions. The disappointing thing is that I only got one minute. I thought we were supposed to get fifteen. I want my other fourteen.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
