I dont know if she is any better, but she can hold her own. If she really is an unknown she probably wont be for long. Looks like she managed to share the stage with Sammy Hagar and possibly other members of Chickenfoot.

That's Ash Soular and she's a great guitarist, even though i'd be content watching her on mute

Heres an Ozark boy that you should know. Roy Buchanan. Roy played in the late 50s with Dale Hawkins, and then with Dales cousin, Ronnie Hawkins, The Ronnie Hawkins band had a young Robbie Robertson playing. Later the Ronnie Hawkins band "morphed"into "The Band". In the early 60s, Roy was doing numerous gigs with all kinds of musicians.

In 1971 Roy became a little more of a "household" name, with his PBS special "The best unknown guitarist in the world" and he landed a 5 record deal with Polydor. Had a couple of big records too! He is 57 in Rolling Stones 100 Greatest guitars players. Roy can just make that Tele cry...

Roy definitely knows how to make a Tele twang, I had never heard of him before to be honest, but hanks for posting this. I just listened to Sweet Dreams. Really nice work!

Somewhat known but not as much as he should be is Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys.

There's so many out there that John Mayer couldn't begin to touch if he lives to be 500 years old - Duane Allman, Rory Gallagher, Roy Buchanan, Danny Gatton, etc.

One current guitarist, Sonny Landreth, could outplay Mayer in his sleep !

Danny Gatton was known as the Humbler. Also from the DC area like Buchanan and was a 13 yearold Joe Bonamassa's guitar teacher. Clapton once stated in an interview he would never want to take the stage with him. A guy who was well liked by everyone who knew him and sadly took his own life. I think most players know who Danny is these days, for a quick peek check out him doing Harlem Nocturne, It is kind of ridicules to put him here as he is one of the greatest players who ever lived.

So true about Sonny Landreth. I was at a gig of his last year where there was just an open floor and I was right up at the front and was just in awe of his playing ability.

EDIT: Another guitar player I'd add in there is Derek Trucks. I don't think he has nearly the size following he should have. Stunning guitar player. I've seen him many times, most recently a couple weeks ago and he's always a joy to watch and listen to.

Well, let me ask this. Why do some consider John Mayer a virtuoso guitar player? He is certainly a very talented song writer, but what is it in his playing that he would be regarded as virtuoso guitar player to some folks? The youtube videos posted in this thread before my reply certainly exhibit technical guitar playing that I have yet to see Mayer perform. So what is it folks, to those people who consider him a virtuso guitar player???????? :?: :?: :?: :?:

I've posted this link before of my beloved Izzy Stradlin doing Spoonfull for a radio show in the early 90's.

Izzy's well known enough but the guy who partners him in his solo stuff, Rick Richards from Georgia Satellites fame doesn't get any cred, he's one of the best slide players I've heard.

Check it out guys:
