In response to the other topics that have popped up on the boards from fanboys of Mayer and naysayers alike, name guitarists (unknown or up and coming) that you think are better than John Mayer. Let's keep it fun and use this as an outlet for us all to find out new guitarists we haven't heard of. So let the fun begin!

Note: No John Mayer fans were hurt during the making of this thread.

The difference between being frank and being conceited is, with the former, you make statements you can back it up and with the latter, you make statements you can't.

FRANKLY, I would be one of those unknown guitarists.

Agreed, but I was also hoping people would post some of their favorites in an effort to put others onto good new music and guitarists

A youtube link of said "unknown" guitarist in action would be proof enough for me.

you have anyone in mind? let's see. I'm trying to find some new music in the process.

I have no doubt that Sergio Vallin would eat Mayer alive and shat him out for other unknown guitarists to step in him for years to come, but I tried turning people on this his work and no one was interested. Language barrier for that one I imagine.

There are plenty of great unknowns out there but I will just mention my Bro Dan Peters from right here in Chi who made it to the finals "King of the Blues' competition, slayed the competition for electric blues but then was given an acoustic guitar for the acoustic part and the pickup was jacked, only half of it was operational and you couldn't really hear all of his acoustic work. The judges knew as well as the stage hands but they wouldn't stop him and let him change guitars. Dan is a professional and kept on playing just an all around great guy, he didn't win the competition because of the problem acoustic guitar but he is the winner to me. Rigged contest? Don't know. Sabotage? Again, don't know. Do the judges suck donkey balls? Absolutely. No offense or disrespect intended, the judges have to look at it from my perspective too. Here is a guy who goes all the way through to the finals with flying colors and now we are supposed to believe that he is suddenly not good. Bo mf'in gus!

dbr, thanks for posting those links Bro! When I watched it yesterday I knew the soundman was playin' pocket pool or just not payin' attention. Frankie, MrSolarcoaster drummer was Dans drummer as a side project when Frankie's regular gig was Bunker Hill and I drum teched for Frankie for both. Dan was always the best, just fun to work with the guy.

No problem man, I always have my ear open trying to find good music, If i hadn't looked so deep I would have missed out on a lot of good stuff, especially the guy who inspired me to start playing guitar myself.

I dont know if she is any better, but she can hold her own. If she really is an unknown she probably wont be for long. Looks like she managed to share the stage with Sammy Hagar and possibly other members of Chickenfoot.
