I was thinking about modding my coffin case. I have a design I want to put on it, but I don't know what kind of paint to use? Any suggestions?

Plan on posting pics when done. I have a basic design planned out, but don't want to use my acrylic paints unless I know I'm sure they'll work.

I would like to see your modded guitar cases if you don't mind as well. I'm just curious.

Thanks.

it is going to be a little difficult because the surface of the coffin is not completely smooth/flat. That will cause some issues but does not make it impossible. Basically you will need to lightly scuff the part you want to paint, lay down a nice primer that is made for plastics and vinyl (try an auto body place), then shoot it.
If you use the tape method make sure you use a really good auto paint tape (not the blue stuff at a home depot kinda place). Then after that clean up the edges and off you go. if you are making a stencil glue it down with removable glue (like a spray adhesive made to remove) and leave it in place from primer to final. i have painted a lot of stuff from bikes to my motorcycle and truck (motorcycle has pearl purple flames and my truck is hot rod black) so if you have any questions let me know.
can't wait to see your creativity! currently i am shooting two guitars in sea foam with bright orange rally stripes. they are crazy 60's style

LVA,

I cannot think of anything for your case. I am interested in seeing it when you are done. Have fun.

Now, are we talking MIM or MIA? I wouldn't mod the MIA.... but if you do, make sure to keep all the original parts. :D

i had to mod the interior of my white coffin case for my jaguar to fit... basically i took the center storage area and trimmed down the wood under the plush interior (had to take it off of course). then after i trimmed it that the jag fit right i put the plush back on and fixed the hinge to a real metal one instead of the cheap azz glue thing they had going on.

You almost had me... but thank God you were joking.

Hey, LadyV

I've seen those cases only in magazines... are they worth a closer look in person? How's the quality? or is it more gimmick than practical?

Thanks.

You should have names this thread, "Pimp My guitar case" and we could have gone crazy like it having a built in coffee maker from the long late drives from gigs, an anti-theft system that electrocutes robbers on contact and maybe even a chandelier.

That's the kind of MODS I thought this thread was about. I have had to mod a few cases like zenbone mentions in order to get a better fit.

Then I had to really mod a Gator case to get this to fit in it:
