Being a child of the 80's I love video games and aside from guitar they are my favourite past time but as a guitarist who is semi-pro I would not be seen dead playing Rock Band or Guitar Hero. Its insulting to real guitar players with that stupid little plastic piece of crap controller.

I also hate the assumption that if you play guitar you must love these games. Hate, hate, hate.

If I wanna vegie out then give me a real game like Final Fantasy and if I wanna play a song then gimme a #$@*&!% Telecaster and a Fender amp!!!

I started playing real guitar when my Guitar Hero 2 memory card was wiped. I figured if I was putting in the hours, it might as well be real. As a result, I can now play a lot of fun, complicated stuff on both electric and classical guitars. I might not have started without GH2...

These games will inspire a whole generation of guitar players; I'm sure of it.

I'm embarassed to admit it, but playing my daughter's Guitar Hero rekindled my love affair with the guitar. I hadn't played in almost 40 years. But when I was "playing that guitar" in that game it brought back a lot of memories. Fixed up my old original '64 Epi, bought a new electric, or two. and away we go.

I don't hate it - I just don't play it. Like has been said, the whole concept is just too weird for a person who has played guitar for so long. My son plays it, and also plays guitar. (He's just not stuck in a rut like his old man.)

As far as I'm concerned, anything musical is good to have around. That of course doesn't include rap. (I did say "musical".)

Now DJ Hero is something I don't get. You have to listen to crappy dance music while playing a fake turntable. Why?

Asteroids & gran turismo are the only 2 computer games worth having IMO , as for guitar hero I remember taking my son who was about 3 at the time to the early learning centre, all the musical toy's had the similar set up as these guitar hero kits only all the coloured buttons actualy played a note , tried GH once, after about 2 minutes felt a pete townsend rage sweeping over me ha ha

I mean, I can totally understand how non-musicians WOULD love it. For them, those games are probably a lot of fun. But it's like me playing a flight simulator, jamming on it, and trying to get my Navy pilot friends to "play" it with me. They have the same attitude of it being silly and pointless to them.

BigJay, did the thought occur to you that maybe your wife wants to play these games with YOU? She may see the joy playing a real guitar brings you and feel that GH and Rockband are as close as she'll get to knowing that feeling, which she wants to share with you! Personally I like GH and Rockband but I'll be the first to admit that I am lacking on real guitar skills even though I enjoy playing and keep on trying! My wife plays GH and Rockband with me and our 2 kids, but she won't play anything else. Its quality family time bro, look at it that way!

I have only ever played GH and it's fun for like 10 minutes. But I only have a Nintendo Game Boy Advance that I play maybe 3x a year. I cannot bring myself to waste a good amount of time or money on video games. I'd rather be playing music. That's just me. That episode of South Park where they made fun of GH was priceless.
