Check out these guitar-shaped coins:

Image

From the CollectibleAmerica website: To celebrate the 50th anniversary of rock ‘n’ roll, the Somali Republic issued a stunning set of six legal tender Dollar coins … with each unique coin shaped like a classic rock ‘n’ roll guitar! These are the world’s first rock ‘n’ roll guitar coins, and each is fully colorized just like the legendary originals. They’re very popular with coin collectors and rock fans around the world, but they’re out of issue and are selling out fast.

I'm not trying to sell these or anything. I just thought they were cool. 8)

Gibson is going to sue the country for using their headstock shapes...

Just kidding, but wouldn't be surprised if they did...

According to the hardcopy catalog I have, they are (L-R):

Red and White Fender Stratocaster (although it looks more like a mutant Les Paul to me)
Stars and Stripes Gibson Flying V
Black Gibson Flying V
Pink Gary Glitter Star
Blue Gibson X-Plorer [sic]
Yellow Klein

I wish the Strat were more Strat-like, but whatcha gonna do. 8)

Never would have guessed guitars were so popular in Somalia!

Is it not wrong as hell for having a Gary Glitter guitar there?

And that Strat is nothing like a Strat except for the input and maybe the pick guard.

Cool idea, shockingly executed.

Absolutely then again what else do you expect from em. We should boycott somalia until they sort their seafaring thieves out. You could always throw em at the pirates I suppose.

Next year their doing the Harold Shipman J-200.

Did you see that fictional documentary last week on capital punishment, "the death of gary glitter".

I didnt support bringing back the death sentence, until I watched that.

...This is Somalia we're talking about!!! Wrong is their middle name.

Must admit, I strongly doubt the entire thing. Does Somalia actually have a currency in any sense the rest of the world would recognise - or a government or central bank to issue one? It sure as heck ain't called a Somalian dollar:

I guess in a collapsed state like that lapel pins/badges are as good a form of cash as anything...

Jackpot, I would imagine ANYTHING can be used for cash in Somalia.

Looks like a omplete fake to me. I'm so sure they are going to have the U.S flag associated with their money. The "coins" look like the same guitar pins you buy in music stores.

There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy. There are lots of weird commemorative coins out there.

Absolutely. If we dont end it now, who knows where it will go. They could all end up with eyepatches, tricorn hats and parrot poo all over their shoulders.

On a serious note the CIA are saying they have no intellegence on Somali pirates, it requires a two pronged assault from land and sea.
