That's the best advice. While standing, adjust your strap so the guitar is in the same position as it would be if you were sitting and then get used to that adjustment for awhile. Gradually lengthen your strap over time until it's in the right position for you. That position will determine your preference, whether it's at the knees (hehehe) or above your waist. This is how I overcame it. Going from sitting to standing is still awkward though, it usually takes a few minutes before the comfortability kicks in. I hardly ever practice standing. I can play better sitting than I can standing.

People usually don't worry about standing while their learning the guitar. You would think that if you can play sitting, you can play standing, but I think everybody has had to face this problem at some time or another.

Sure, we've all faced that problem. Your hand angle is totally different when you're standing. It's like anything else though, the more you do it the easier it gets. Practice standing up for a week or so and you'll notice the difference. You just need to get some new "muscle memory".

I have the same problem at times. Most pieces of music, I learn sat at my desk reading tabs, so when I stand up it takes me a while to get the hang of the song at a different angle. But I find it's just a question of practising. Although I will admit, I have a very handy drum stool for those extra tricky tunes :P

If it's any consolation... we've all been there. Just stick with it (try differnt positions/starp lengths too) and eventually it'll start to feel more natural.

It's the same with first time you use a pick instead of finders (or fingers instead of pick)...
First time you play electric instead of acoustic... or steel strings instead of nylon... or barre chords instead of open... it's just new, so feels weird. Stick with it!

I can't sing while playing to save the Queen's arse...

Not that we Aussies really care...

None the less, play around with the strap and see how it goes, even a change in say a 1cm would change the feel quite a bit...

I can't really sing while playing either. That is, unless I'm strumming away with my acoustic. But on the electric with licks and stuff, I can't do it.

You will learn Grasshopper. First you must take the pebble from my hand....
Seriously, just practice- start with just strumming one chord at a time then sing- ya know; <chord> "Love me tender..." <chord> "Love me sweet.." <chord> "Never let me go.." <chord> <chord>.... :D

Also try and exercise your wrists more often!
it is vital for them to be flexible when you play guitar (I find this to help me a lot) :)
