my computer teacher was giving away random cds b/c he had no room anymore for his stuff and he was never gonna listen. I managed to get a hold of Achtung Baby by U2 (i liked it) and in the back it had his ticket stub from their Zoo TV tour in '92 (i was still in the womb) and the price was $32. All i could say was "WOW" b/c the price for U2 (or any classic rock band) is pretty much over or close to $100. It was just a shock to me to see how affordable it was to go to concerts back then now it's like a once and awhile treat (for me it seems, im not exactly a rich kid, more in the middle).

I saw BTO for $11 in '76 and thought it was way too expensive as I had seen Alice Cooper for $7.50 two years before. Of course I was making. $1.85/hr. at the time so in comparison to my present wages concerts are cheaper now. Back in the day we went to every concert available to us and if we liked them we'd buy an album. Nowadays you don't go to a concert unless you already like them. It was a different time. You always went to a concert but you didn't always buy an album.

I saw ZZ TOP for $3.00 but it was a while back. At that time $7.00 was the price for most big names.

The prices I here for some acts today are just mind numbing. Especially knowing there best shows are behind them.

I saw Kansas with Cain warming up at the MN State Fair in 1976 for $7.50 (not including corn dog on a stick).

Inflation....cost of living increases...

...I saw Paul Butterfield w/ Mike Bloomfield and Elvin Bishop for a $3 cover charge in '68.

It's incredible how much ticket prices have gone up in just the last 10 years or so. You really have to pick and choose who you want to see, now!

My first ever concert was AC/DC back in 1990. The ticket price back then was about $20, if I remember correctly. That was only about $5.00 or so more than the cost of the album the band was promoting.

It's a bit funny how the price of CDs has stayed roughly the same over the last 20 years (even gone down by a few dollars in most cases), where the price of concert tickets has gone up anywhere from 300-800% or more.

It's almost like professional sports teams. If people will pay ... the prices will keep going up. Been to a hockey game lately? $75 for the nosebleed seats.

I kinda agree with that.

My wife and I were slow out the trap going for tickets for Clapton-Beck next year. By the time we looked the best that was available was £110/$183 for seats in row R of the upper tier. We both felt; don't be silly!

I've paid more than that for worse seats for big acts - and almost always been disappointed by the show.

Spend less to see hot young acts in smaller venues: that's my policy.

Beck and Clapton will come around again...

Cheers - C

I saw Jackson Browne and Linda Ronstadt play in Fullerton, CA for
$4.50, back in '70-something. Great show. Ronstadt was so late, Browne had to go on first. I always thought Browne was a bit of a cry-baby socialist, but he put on a great show, very intimate. This was before the David Lindley days. Heywood on bass and 2nd vocal.
Browne was from the area and was asking people in the room, "What ever happened to so and so.....". Talking about Scotchman's Cove and so forth..
It made my heart rise in my chest. I went out and bought a Lyle Hummingbird after that night.

It was all very California-ish.

My first concert was Joan Jett & the Blackhearts
@ Santa Monica Civic on May 11, 1982... i was 13.

I remember waiting in line when tickets were going on sale & hearing
some of the old timers complaining about the outrageous $9 ticket price.
One guy was ranting about seeing Zeppelin gigs, for never more than $3-6.

One of the other big concert highlights of my life was
Heavy Metal Sunday, Day 2 of the second US Festival.
On May 29, 1983 i saw Van Halen, Scorpions, Triumph,
Judas Priest, Ozzy Osbourne, Motley Crue & Quiet Riot.
That ticket cost $20, which seems insane now, but i can
remember thinking how expensive THAT was at the time.

My, how things change...
