I currently own a Jackson RR1, snow white with black pinstripes, which I bought new for the fair price of $1800 1 year ago (They usually go for $2375). When I bought that guitar, my store also had a new black LP custom on sale for $2899. I never played it, I just looked at the price tag and couldn't pony up the extra dough so I went for the Jackson. I've lately thought about that LP, if I made the right decision or not. As fate would have it, that same store just got it a 2007 LP Custom used in mint condition (Black of course), no scratches or anything, listed at $2700. So a decision must be made, should I trade in the Rhoads and some pedals and whatnot, probably $1000 and go home with a LP custom or should I stick with what I got already? Help me out here, they are both superb instruments in their own right, but I simply cannot own both, so I need some GAS counseling bad :(

Good Luck

In all honesty mate, I wouldnt do it. I've just had a similar offer on a LP and found the neck binding to not meet the fret ends well. I enquired on the Gibson forum and received the response that all les pauls will click on the high E if they pass that join. If like me you wrench them treble strings around it makes for a unpleasant playing experience. Apparently forum user TheWood has the same problem on his supreme. Its brand new.
Heres the thread.

If you decide to go for it, this is something to consider. I honestly didnt realize how bad the problem could be till I thought about it. It could be indicative of a twisting neck or binding coming away. Or as I suspect just plain poor design.

Your Jackson will have a superb neck and ultimate playability, them RR1's are a thing of wonder as are the other top end jacko's.[/url]

+1

You may love the LP but you could be yearning for that Jackson for years to come. You should prob save and have both one day. Every piece of gear I've sold over the years I regret doing so. I'm sure a lot of the guys are the same.

Any gear I've parted with to get another has caused so much regret that I vowed never to do it again unless I was offered a mint 54 Strat for my MIM Tele or something like that.

Oh. I anguish over every purchase, so I suffer with GAS, too. Usually talk myself out of the buy. I always remember the words of filmmaker Robert Rodriguez: "Money is power. The less you spend, the more you have".

LPs? In my view: They're like Dara, this girl I was with: A$$-heavy and unbalanced.

Well, I just got back from the music store with my Jackson. I played the LP through a Marshall JTM45RI through a 1960TV cab, doing some simple rhythm licks and chords at reasonable volume. Aside from the light gauge strings and low action (I prefer heavy gauge and high action), the guitar was flawless. It was definitely the best LP I've ever played up to that point, bar none. At that moment a mother and her 8 yr old son walked by, and I heard her say to her son, "Now that's a pretty guitar." I paid no attention to that comment and kept on playing for about 10 min, then brought out the Rhoads. As soon as the mother saw that Jackson, she turned to her son and said, "I think it's time to go." and walked out the door. I don't think I even played a note, I just walked out of the store with a big sloppy grin on my face.

You know... You've got to ask yourself (and maybe the clerk)... Why did they trade it in in the first place?

I have been wanting a Les Paul for over 30 years and you know what-they are still there and I can get one anytime. In the int rem I have picked up a few guitars that I like better than any Paul I played and cost me what a good Paul would. The difference being they are not made anymore. So with that one day I will get a Paul be it a new one or at a show but they are not going anywhere. Jackson makes some kick $@! guitars and are in high demand and are used by many more young bands that play heavy than a Paul.
