Wish I could choose more than one. It's a combination of riff and chord progression. But I'm far from a songwriter.

Well for me it's got to be a riff, that is where the idea for the songs i write start.
then i try to combine the rhythm / melody / chord progression, it's all the same.
and i never write lyrics, I leave that for the singer, i may toss in a idea now and then.

and it seems the best stuff comes the easiest, I never sit down and try to force something out, i'll play, and if something cool happens,
i'll start recording, some times you will get enough parts from 3 or 4 recordings to start putting together pieces.

this has happened to me as well, I will have 3 or 4 songs that I think that I'm working on and shelve them because I can't find a way to complete them, then a couple of weeks later I'll play them all and realize that they compliment each other or fit together with a tweak here and there.

I like this cadence, to my mind it fits with instrumentation, accents and enunciation and you could have a love song:

Honey, how are you tonight
you're the one I'm here to see
you are so beautiful tonight
you are all there is for me

Baby, will you hold me tight
our true love in ecstasy
with you it feels so right
for our love eternally

I can't see you every night
though my heart is here with you
very soon I'll have to go
I want to spend this night with you

Honey, now I'll be with you
endless love perpetually
us together, just we two
in our lovers fantasy
